Duties:

Job Description

Assembles repairs and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist I selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut shape or finish metal plastic or composite material. Sets up services and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally Machinist I utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into subunits or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist I works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.






Requirements

  • Analyzing specification charts samples and drawings to gain a thorough understanding of requirements
  • Developing a plan of action to manufacture parts according to specifications
  • Measuring and marking raw materials needed to manufacture parts
  • Setting up equipment required to complete each step of the manufacturing plan
  • Operating equipment to carry out each step correctly
  • Monitoring the production process and intervening when problems arise
  • Inspecting finished parts for flaws and defects
  • Maintaining equipment located throughout the machine shop
