Essential Job Functions: - Teach Upper School music classes including Music Theory and World Music
- Work with fellow music faculty to support and expand Upper School vocal and instrumental programs
- Develop an innovative and inclusive approach to engaging student musicians of all skill levels from beginners to advanced performers
- Create music arrangements for a range of instrumental ensembles and student performers
- Schedule rehearsals and prepare students for performances
- Assist with concert planning and
- Help to oversee the maintenance of pianos and other instruments on campus
- Promote a performing arts culture where individual contributions and teamwork are valued
- Collaborate with the Director of Performing Arts on all matters related to program design curriculum delivery timetable budgets and other matters
- Develop and implement differentiated curriculum and lesson plans to ensure the delivery of highquality lessons and performances for students
- Evaluate curriculum design and delivery to ensure continuous improvement and skill development; assess record and report on student progress
- Facilitate activities to enhance the learning experience for students and broaden their performing arts exposure and appreciation throughout the School community
- Coach two seasons of sports or the equivalent in performing arts productions and assume other auxiliary duties such as advising extra help for students and study halls.
- Order and maintain an organized inventory system of teaching and performance materials
- Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings inservice training schoolwide events and parentteacher conferences

Skills and Qualifications: - Bachelors degree required; advanced degree preferred in subject area
- At least three years of fulltime experience working with adolescents
- Knowledge of music theory topics requisite to teach AP course
- Piano proficiency at the level of chordal accompaniment required; advanced piano skills preferred
- Ability to work effectively across a range of musical genres from classical to pop
- Proficiency with music notation software
- Proficiency in developing delivery and assessing comprehensive lesson plans and instruction
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students faculty staff and parents
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines with maximum precision and minimal supervision
- Demonstrated knowledge in teaching principles theories methods behavior management techniques and conflict resolution strategies
- Understanding of the academic social and behavioral characteristics of this age group
- History of continued education or professional development
- Ability to work as a team play and individual contributor

Requirements: This job requires one to lift carry push and/or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds as well as the ability to stand sit walk and effective use of extremities to reach hold touch push pull lift and carry. Incumbent must also effectively communicate (oral written nonverbal) with others. This job typically requires 35 sitting 35 walking and 30 standing and is performed under minimal temperature variations in a generally hazardfree environment. Depending on classroom assignment this role may require one to relocate classrooms throughout the day and require ascending and descending stairs. Incumbents will occasionally be required to work extended hours including after school during evenings and on weekends. Dexter Southfields 36acre campus is composed of several buildings playing fields and outdoor learning spaces which are accessible via internal and external walkways stairs nature paths hills and uneven terrain. This position requires one to transfer between these areas in all weather conditions.
