Summary of the Family Support Clinician:

  • The Family Support Clinician is responsible for providing voluntary inhome communitybased and telehealth support counseling and stabilization services for families who are involved in the child welfare system and/or whose child has significant behavioral or mental health needs. Reporting to the Director of Intervention Services (Foster Care and Intact Family Services) this position requires a Masters degree in social work or related field and child welfare experience.
  • OFFICE LOCATION:1500 Fort Jesse Rd Normal IL 61761
  • WORK HOURS:Fulltime nonexempt 37.5 hrs/wk which many include some evening and weekend hours to accomodate families we serve
  • PAY: $58032 minimum. Competitive based on experience education and certifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR FAMILY SUPPORT CLINICIAN:

  1. Must meet the definition of a mental health professional or MHP as defined in Part 132 Medicaid Community Mental Health Service Program an individual who provides services under the supervision of a Qualified Mental Health Professional and possess a Bachelors degree in counseling and guidance rehabilitation counseling social work education vocational counseling psychology pastoral counseling family therapy or related human service field.
  2. Masters degree in Social Work or related field and meeting the definition of a qualified mental health profession or QMHP as defined in Part 132 Medicaid Community Mental Health Service Program preferred.
  3. Previous child welfare experience with a relevant population preferred
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates a communication style that is open adaptable reflective engaging honest culturally sensitive and eliminates the use of labels that stigmatize.
  5. Knowledge of and skills necessary to apply the principles of child welfare and mental health treatment to specific cases.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Family Engagement and Assessment: Engages families in the treatment process through the use of Systems of Care model and Family Driven Care principles. Provides inhome traumainformed screening and assessment using the Illinois Medicaid Comprehensive Assessment of Needs and Strengths (IMCANS) in compliance with Medicaid Rule 132 and 140 and/or standardized assessments in accordance with the Nurturing Families Infant19 curriculum and/or standardized assessments in accordance with the Triple P curriculum as well as COA service standards.
  • Service/Treatment Planning: In collaboration with client families develops and implements treatment plans in accordance with Nurturing Families Infant19 or Triple P curriculums or utilizing the IMCANS in compliance with Medicaid Rule 132 and 140 and COA service standards that will stabilize strengthen and support the family and focus child(ren). Makes referrals and service/treatment recommendations to community service providers as needed.
  • Family Support Counseling and Stabilization: In accordance with the treatment plan utilizes trauma informed treatment models to provide inhome counseling skillbuilding education training and support to families in order to:
    • Assist parents/caregivers with the creation of a crisis safety plan for the focus child(ren) as appropriate and follow crisis planning procedures as needed.
    • Teach the focus child(ren) and parents/caregivers deescalation calming mindfulness and affect regulation strategies.
    • Educate parents/caregivers about healthy child development as well as the risk and protective factors associated with trauma/childhood adversity and assist them with developing tools/strategies to promote healthy development and strengthen protective factors for their child(ren).
    • Support the focus child(ren) and their family and enhances their overall level of functioning through the application of age and developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Case Management Advocacy and Support: In accordance with the treatment plan provides case management advocacy and support services to stabilize the family and improve family functioning by:
    • Working with the family to identify and access needed community services and resources.
    • Using a Child and Family Team model to coordinate services and communicate case information between the family and all involved community resources including schools service providers and other contacts.
