WORK ENVIRONMENT: The North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a maximumsecurity allmale forensic mental health facility in Gainesville Florida. It has a current capacity of 193 residents.
TYPE OF PATIENTS: The average age of our residents is the early 30s. The goal is to get those committed as Incompetent to Proceed to Trial 78 back to their committing courts for disposition of their charges and those engaged as Not Guilty because of Insanity 22 to a less restrictive environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
- Must hold unencumbered licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- One year of nursing experience strongly preferred.
- Must be CPR certified or able to complete training.
- Must be able to complete full orientation at time of hire.
- Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift and carry 20 lbs. remain alert while on duty and work 16hour shifts on occasion.
CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess resident complaints and determine action notifying the supervisor when necessary.
- Admit and transfer residents to and from other units or outside sources.
- Administer oral and/or injectable and controlled medications under facility policy and within their scope of practice as defined by Florida law.
- Observe for side effects or adverse effects of medication and report to assigned supervisor or for further assessment and treatment.
- Prepare paperwork as required for consults within the facility and outside appointments.
- Coordinate residents appointments with unit staff to ensure medications are appropriately timed as needed for resident movement to and from the unit.
- Provide emergency medical/psychiatric treatment within the scope of practice as defined by the facility and Florida law notifying the supervisor for further assistance.
- Complete incident reports factually and objectively within the appropriate time frame defined by the facility.
- Complete progress notes on resident care within the appropriate time frame defined by the facility.
- Advocate for residents recovery and safety.
- Maintain appropriate and professional behavior during interactions with residents supervisors and other staff members.
- Display professionalism throughout employment including but not limited to arriving to work on time maintaining an accurate timesheet and maintaining professional appearance as defined by facility policy.
