The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the city towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully reenter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The DOC seeks to recruit a Painter. Under supervision does inside and outside patching and painting of a general nature including all coats; performs related work.
The selected candidate will be responsible for but not limited to:
Works on and from ladders platforms and scaffolds as jobs may require;
Erects ladders;
May rig lines and scaffolds;
Prepares fills and primes surfaces for painting;
Mixes paint components and matches colors;
Applies paint with a brush roller or spray gun to surfaces.
Applies plaster to surfaces including skimming walls and taping joints.
Takes proper care of all materials tools and equipment.
Keeps work records as required.
May operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.
Perform duties as assigned.

Qualifications :
1. Five years of fulltime satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years; or
2. At least three years of fulltime satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years and sufficient fulltime satisfactory apprentice painter experience to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice painter experience.
