OnsiteThe Mission Systems Environmental Effects Engineering team at Collins Aerospace is looking for a Senior Principal Nuclear Effects Engineer to join our staff. This position will be responsible to support the multidisciplinary environment across different strategic business units within the company with their nuclear radiation hardness requirements capture design and test. This position is part of a larger team that performs a variety of TEMPEST Nuclear Electromagnetic Compatibility/Interference (EMC/EMI) and Power Input qualification testing of Company products and programs to various military and commercial industry standards.
The Environmental Effects Engineering (EEE) lab is a worldclass fullservice 18000 sqft (and growing) Environmental Qualification Test Lab located in Cedar Rapids IA capable of creating nearly any environment required in the avionics industry. While EEE reports up through Mission Systems they support all testing for Collins Aerospace and Raytheon Technologies as needed. EEE services not only include a full suite of Climatics Dynamic EMI EMC Lightning and TEMPEST test capabilities; their industry experts also offer design support analysis test failure troubleshooting root cause analyses and much more.
What YOU Will Do:
Serve assigned projects as a focal point for nuclear effect related activities including:
Contribute to program pursuits and bid estimates
Requirements capture activities (review parse and translate nuclear requirements)
Documentation support for each assigned project including
Preparation and review of nuclear test plans
Contribute to the development of the Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews
Conduct testing in the environments of Total Ionizing Dose Neutron Displacement Damage Ionizing Dose Rate and Neutron Single Event Effects
Conduct statistical analysis of data received
Develop and review test reports
Provide support to program during Design phase including advising on risk mitigation strategies
Oversee implementation of hardness assurance throughout the life cycle of the product
Conduct nuclear hardening analysis of components to identify risk and testing needs
Conduct/lead testing activities working independently on multiple projects and multiple tasks

Qualifications You Must Have:
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Typically requires a degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree 14 years of relevant experience
Experience with nuclear radiation effects
Experience of electrical circuits design
Qualifications We Prefer:
BS in Electrical Engineering or Physics
Be capable of handson troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment (oscilloscopes signal generators etc
Ability to read/understand electronic schematics
Experience with HCI and HCP marking and controls
Experience with component level nuclear analysis
Experienced testing per MILSTD883 at a component to box level in nuclear radiation environments
Ability to statistically reduce test data
Experience with MILSTD2169 analysis and testing
Knowledge of CBRN contaminants decontamination and hardening
