Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi The opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and agile Student and community Engagement Adviser to join our Schools and Community Engagement Team reporting to the Poutaki Taura Tangata Maori (Schools Recruitment Manager).

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with targeted kura wharekura secondary schools tauira Mori teachers and school community groups listening to their needs and seeking opportunities to partner with them to support tauira Mori (predominantly year 9 to 13 and their whnau plan for and achieve their aspirations.

You will also have an important role in r leading Mori school student engagement and nurturing relationships with schools and the wider community. Working in partnership with the Office of the ProVice Chancellor Mori to coordinate engagement activity and support prospective Mori students and their whnau to navigate their journey into the University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of strategic plans to develop the school leavers experience as they engage with the University and begin navigating their way to the point of application
  • Responsible for achieving recruitment targets for prospective school leaver students through delivering presentations on behalf of the University and participating in on and off campus engagement events.
  • Support programme specific outreach engagement and recruitment in line with the School Leaver segment plan and working with key faculty staff.
  • Establish and develop strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including careers advisors other key secondary school staff and relevant staff across the University and faculties in line with the segment plan and the wider team.
  • Develop effective relationships with school leavers and their whnau on behalf of the University playing a guidance and support role.

This is a fulltime 37.5 hours per week) permanent opportunity. The salary range for this role is $72000 $88900 depending on skills and experience.

Qualifications :

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A degree and/or postgraduate qualification in relevant discipline or equivalent experience knowledge and training.
  • Experience developing maintaining relationships with and understanding the needs of key stakeholders.
  • Agile experience or an understanding of crossfunction team ways of working in an agile environment.
  • Demonstrable understanding competence and confidence of Te ao Mori.

It would also be preferable that you:

  • Have a strong or confident command of Te Reo
  • Have a solid understanding of Tikanga
  • Have experience working with or in Mori medium education
