Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Paraprofessional with American Sign Language (ASL) experience to support a 1:1 student who is deaf with limited signing skills. This role is instrumental in helping the student build essential communication skills by providing sign language support tailored to daily activities and instructions.
Position Details
- Role: Paraprofessional (ASL Experience Required)
- Location: El Cajon CA 92020
- Age/Grades: TBD
- Case Load: 1:1 with a deaf student
- Hours: MondayFriday 7:55am2:15pm 35 hours per week); may extend to 7 hours/day for additional prep or parent communication support
- Duration: Start ASAP through June 17 2025 (flexible for shortterm coverage if needed)
- Compensation:based on experience
Key Qualifications
- ASL Proficiency: Moderate to fluent level in American Sign Language required to assist with daily communication
- Education: Associate degree 2 years of college credit or equivalent certification (such as a Paraprofessional Assessment)
- Experience: Confidence in ASL is essential to support the student effectively. This includes interpreting simple instructions and facilitating communication.
Responsibilities
- Work 1:1 with the student helping them build a foundational understanding of ASL signs related to instructions and daily tasks.
- Prepare and adapt materials as needed to support the students learning.
- Potentially support communication between the teacher student and parent by interpreting as needed (if fluency level allows).
