Job Description

WAtoday is looking for an experienced business and/or planning and development reporter to join our team of skilled journalists at the Nine Publishing masthead based in Perth.

The right candidate will have good contacts from within the WA business world and a demonstrated ability to break news stories that people in business want to read. The role will cover the resources industry civil court matters big business and high profile leaders.

We are looking for someone who can break news of national significance that will also be published in our sister publications the Sydney Morning Herald The Age and the Brisbane Times.

The right person will also write intelligent and wellresearched stories about issues such as urban sprawl planning and design and the Perth property market.

Key responsibilities:

  • Break news stories on the WA business world including the resources industry business leaders and civil court matters.
  • Write impactful and exclusive stories with national relevance to be shared across Nines mastheads.
  • Produce indepth coverage of urban planning issues including topics like urban sprawl and the Perth property market.
  • Deliver clean accurate and timely copy to meet the fastpaced demands of the newsroom.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with key figures within the WA business planning and development sectors to source stories.
  • Write numerous stories per week for the news website ensuring consistency in quality.

Qualifications :

What we would like to see: 

  • Proven experience as a journalist preferably for a major news organisation
  • Demonstrated knowledge in either business courts development and planning and/or property market reporting.
  • Proven track record of breaking major news stories and producing wellresearched insightful content.
  • A contact book of key WA people in the areas of business planning and development and politics will be beneficial.
  • A clear professional writing style with a demonstrated ability to produce clean engaging copy.
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines in a fastpaced news environment.
  • Experience covering urban planning issues including topics such as urban sprawl design and the property market is highly desirable.
