Your work environment at EXP
EXPs St. Johns Earth and Environmental group is currently seeking a Materials Testing Technician/ Technologist for its materials testing laboratory in Mount Pearl and projects in St. Johns and surrounding areas. Reporting to the Practice Manager the successful candidate will provide appropriate technical services to Project Managers and Engineers for those projects assigned.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
- Working closely with Project Managers the successful candidate will be responsible mainly for the completion of laboratory testing and also various field inspections and associated reporting for laboratory testing and construction projects.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Executing laboratory materials testing (asphalts suites; concrete compressive strength testing; grain size analysis proctors etc. and field inspection work as may be necessary (asphalt field compaction; concrete field casting of concrete cylinders slump air content; soil field compaction testing);
- Executing assignments requiring general familiarity with a broad field of materials laboratory/field testing geotechnical engineering general construction earth moving projects and civil engineering;
- Preparing clear and concise laboratory testing and field inspection reports and review as necessary laboratory and field inspection reports;
- Interacting with clients to provide excellent service and quick response to their testing needs;
- Working in compliance with various standards and specifications including EXPs internal QMS system.
What your experience looks like
- Civil Engineering technician/technology diploma from a recognized technical college or equivalent experience and be eligible for registration with Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologist of Newfoundland and Labrador (AETTNL);
- CCIL certification is an asset;
- Experience in materials laboratory and field testing and geotechnical settings (concrete soils asphalt testing test pits and boreholes);
- Applies knowledge with CCIL ASTM and CSA testing methodology and laboratory and field testing procedures;
- Familiar with various civil earth moving and construction projects;
- Effective oral and technical written communication skills;
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office WORD EXCEL). Experience with AutoCAD and gINT would be an asset;
- Willingness to travel around Newfoundland and Labrador and participate in field investigations and materials testing;
- Strong organizational and time management skills;
- Be a motivated selfstarter with a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment;
- Must have a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle;
- Two to five years related experience is considered an asset.
