Responsibilities:

  • Provides general information about the criminal justice process the child protective services process the functions of the MDT educates the nonoffending caregivers on the dynamics of abuse and provides information and treatment referrals as needed;
  • Provides education and information to the victim and to the nonoffending caregiver including information about the forensic interview process;
  • Shares information with the MDT as needed to ensure continuity of care;
  • Coordinates with the CAC Director and the assigned investigator to schedule a medical examination for the victim before the child and nonoffending caregiver leave the CAC;
  • Provides the nonoffending caregiver with Crime Victim Rights Information Crime Victim Compensation information and forms and helps them complete the paperwork as needed;
  • Conducts followup contact with the victim and/or nonoffending caregiver at minimum intervals of 1week postinterview 6 weeks postinterview and 12 weeks postinterview. They then communicate with the Child Protection Specialist and/or law enforcement about the status of the child;
  • Remains available to the nonoffending caregiver as a liaison to the MDT. The CAC advocate may assist with providing information to the victim and nonoffending caregiver(s) regarding the alleged perpetrator interrogation criminal charges court preparation educational resources and/or any other general information;
  • May respond to the local emergency room when a child presents there for an acute ;
  • Assists County Attorneys office and/or the designated deputy county attorney with additional services for cases that include child victims of crime as necessary.
  • Court support or preparation for the child victim and Court accompaniment;
  • Assistance with victim impact statements and assistance with access to services such as protective orders housing public assistance domestic violence intervention and transportation;
  • Provides backup for the CAC Director when the Director is unavailable. This may include coordinating forensic interviews and addressing issues that arise on the MDT;
  • Participates in monthly case review meetings.
