Job Opportunity: Child Health Nurse at South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS)

About SWAMS:

The South West Aboriginal Medical Service Ltd (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation founded on the principles of selfdetermination empowerment and freedom of choice. Our mission is to provide highquality culturally appropriate and holistic healthcare that builds strong and healthy Aboriginal communities. We act with integrity and are dedicated to excellence. We have over 200 staff here at SWAMS and are continuing to grow. We are actively working to Close the Gap.

We operate out of the Greater Bunbury area Mandurah and have numerous clinics throughout the South West. This role will operate out of our Bunbury and Eaton clinics.

About the Role:

As a Child Health Nurse your primary responsibility is to ensure the delivery of exceptional care to our clients. Your focus will be on child health with the overarching goal of improving health outcomes for the Aboriginal people in our area. The role includes:

  • Engaging in collaborative health checks for children aged 0 to 16 years (and adult clients when necessary) emphasising a teambased approach.
  • Providing education followup and recall services empowering clients to actively manage their health.
  • Offering valuable insights to the Child and Maternal Health Coordinator and Clinic Director regarding areas for quality enhancement within your scope of practice.
  • Completing routine screenings immunizations and developmental assessments.
  • Work closely with General Practitioners (GPs) and visiting specialists to optimize client care.

Essential Criteria:

  • AHPRA Registered Nurse with postgraduation experience in nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan develop implement and evaluate nursing care programs in a child health setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the unique issues effecting and impacting upon the health of Aboriginal people.
  • Experience skills and knowledge in multidisciplinary teamwork and conflict management.
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills along with an ability to adapt to changing needs.
  • Knowledge and experience in the provision of health promotion programs.
  • Current C class drivers licence.
  • Working with Childrens Check

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in Community or Aboriginal Health
  • Knowledge and expertise in the use of Communicare or similar clinical database system.
