OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY located in Atlanta Georgia is seeking a threeyear Lecturer of Philosophy to start in Fall 2025. High quality teaching is the expectation at Oglethorpe. The ideal candidate will be able to actively engage a diverse classroom of students using multimodal pedagogical techniques and methods appropriate for a teachingoriented liberal arts university. The area of specialization is open but candidates must be capable of teaching across the curriculum including such courses as Introduction to Philosophy Logic History of Philosophy and Epistemology. Preference will be given to candidates whose area of specialization is either Ethics or Criminal Justice Philosophy of Law Crime and Punishment. The Philosophy Program at Oglethorpe University is committed to expanding innovating and diversifying its course offerings and learning opportunities for students. Therefore candidates who demonstrate experience and willingness to design courses that involve experiential learning internships and learning opportunities that our Atlanta location has to offer will be particularly valued.
Responsibilities will include fulltime teaching 4/4 course load) engaging in regular service to the university and staying current in their field of expertise. In addition candidates will be expected to teach in Oglethorpes unique Core program contribute to departmental/university service initiatives and mentor and advise students from diverse backgrounds.
A PhD in Philosophy is required at time of appointment. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching from a liberal arts perspective stressing excellent writing skills theoretical understanding critical analysis and connecting theory to practice. Furthermore the Philosophy Program is seeking candidates who are interested in collaborating with other disciplines to design courses that are interdisciplinary and can serve a wide range of students within our community.
