Job Summary
The Assistant Director of New Student and Family Programs position is part of a team of professionals that delivers orientation Univ 100 and 150 and other retention and student transition initiatives to Radford Universitys entering new students and family members. The Assistant Director is responsible for the family member side of the orientation program including but not limited to supervising and training family student assistants communication logistics program development presentations and any other support needed for family members during orientation. The Assistant Director will also assist with NSFP special events serve on committees that involve campuswide first year experience initiatives and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience working with students and family members; Experience working within a team environment; An understanding of the developmental and transitional needs of students; Strong organizational and communication skills; Strong public speaking and presentation skills; Event planning experience; Ability to teach classes designed to support the transition of new students to higher education; Proficiency with current office software for databases spreadsheets and word processing.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience mentoring student leaders; Experience providing support to atrisk students especially firstgeneration students; Experience planning programs for family members; Knowledge of best practices in student retention and the ability to implement those practices; Experience working in an academic setting preferably a higher education setting.
