Position Summary
The Radiation Control Technician (RCT) implements LBNLs Radiation Protection Program ensuring compliance with radiation safety policies and procedures. The RCT utilizes specialized radiation measurement and radioisotope handling principles to conduct radiological surveys analyze samples and support safe operations within laboratory and field environments. This role independently resolves complex health physics challenges and provides technical guidance to research teams.
Key Responsibilities
Perform radiological surveys sample collection and analysis in laboratories construction areas and remediation sites.
Conduct release surveys for materials and equipment from controlled to uncontrolled areas.
Advise research teams on radiological safety and assist in planning safe work practices.
Evaluate radiological conditions to support the development of work authorizations and survey plans.
Post and label radiological control areas and items.
Conduct assessments audits and investigations related to radiation safety.
Respond to radiological incidents contaminated personnel and emergency situations.
Plan and oversee radiological work activities in compliance with established protocols.
Qualifications
Required:
Associates or Bachelors degree in Health Physics Radiation Protection or a related field.
Experience performing radiological surveys sampling and contamination control.
Knowledge of radiation protection principles regulatory requirements and technical work documents.
Strong problemsolving and decisionmaking skills.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Certification as a Radiation Control Technician (or equivalent) preferred.
Preferred:
Two years of experience as a Radiation Control Technician
Fullface Respirator qualifications
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $28.30/hr to $32.50/hr (Compliant with salary transparency laws including California New York and Colorado).
