Job Description

The Human Resources (HR) Generalist plays a key role in overseeing the Human Resource Departments responsibilities and activities of GuideStar Eldercare. The HR Generalist regularly uses independent judgement and discretion in the matters of employee relations management training and development and employment law related to oversight of federal and state leave programs and regulatory compliance. The HR Generalist will also use independent judgement knowledge and experience to evaluate HR processes and make recommendations for improvements subject to oversight by the HR Manager Chief Operating Officer General Counsel and Executive Leadership Team. This position is located in Crown Point IN and onsite work is required Monday through Friday 8 am 5 pm CST.

General Responsibilities:

    • Assists with all internal and external HRrelated employee relations matters except recruiting.
    • Assists in developing and implementing organizational guidelines policies and procedures. Research and recommend HR best practices.
    • Oversees GuideStars paid/unpaid time off policies & procedures in compliance with federal and state laws (FMLA/ADA/PWFA) jury duty bereavement including Short & LongTerm Disability claims.
    • Investigates and resolves employee discipline and complaints. Collaborates with supervisors on employee terminations.
    • Processes unemployment claims prepares for hearings and assists with responses to EEOC charges/investigations.
    • Oversees exits conducts exit notifications interviews and coordinates the return of company equipment.
    • Coordinates employee development plans and performance management. Performance review support: 306090day introductory period reviews annual performance reviews maintains and monitor disciplinary and progressive improvement plans.
    • Wage and Hour and final paycheck compliance (federal and state).
    • Manages the Departments personnel records HRIS system and prepares reports as needed.
    • Recommends strategies to motivate employees and for employee retention.
    • Manages inclement weather alerts and employee attendance.
    • Drafts/amends Employment Agreements (on an as needed basis to cover department for PTO/FMLA).
    • Produces and submits reports on general HR activity.
    • Develops employee training program for managers others as needed.
    • Benefits administration (on an as needed basis to cover department for PTO/FMLA).
    • Stays up to date with all federal/state/local HR laws and regulations (HR posters).
    • Assists upon request with HRrelated special projects.
    • Oversees onboarding process with HR Coordinator and presents HR portion of orientation as needed.
    • Executes process improvement department initiatives as needed.
    • Assists with employee recognition program.
    • Workers Compensation/OSHA claims management.
    • Gains a working understanding of licensing requirements for all states in which GuideStar offers services (on an as needed basis to cover department for PTO/FMLA).
    • Assist with managing the workflow of the HR Assistant.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree required; in Human Resources or related field preferred
    • Three plus 3 years of experience as an HR Coordinator Generalist or Specialist; preferably in Healthcare
    • SHRMCP or PHR certification required
    • Deep understanding of employment law and regulations; specifically FMLA/ADA
    • Efficient HR administration and people management skills
    • Excellent record keeping skills
    • Fantastic knowledge of HR functions and best practices
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Works comfortably under pressure and meets tight deadlines; must be able to multitask
    • Superb computer literacy with capability in email MS Office and HR software; UKG Ready preferred.
    • Remarkable organizational and conflict management skills
    • Strong decision making and problemsolving skills
    • Meticulous attention to detail
    • Able to pass background testing including motor vehicle record review and drug screening.
    • Must have reliable transportation
