Manager Commercial Underwriting Support & Operations
An exciting opportunity is available in the insurance industry for our client. This leadership role is responsible for managing the daytoday operations of a specialized support team ensuring strong underwriting fundamentals team development and operational efficiency. The successful candidate will oversee service support underwriting assistants and technical assistants while fostering strong relationships with brokers MGAs and internal partners. This role requires a focus on mentorship process optimization and driving operational excellence.
What is in it for you:
Salaried: $57.64 per hour.
Incorporated Business Rate: $64.44 per hour.
18month contract.
Fulltime position: 37.50 hours per week.
Primary Location: Toronto with a secondary site in Markham.
Work Arrangement: Onsite role with occasional travel required.
Responsibilities:
Manage key broker and MGA operational relationships ensuring collaboration and alignment with strategic goals.
Lead two core teams within the broader support function.
Guide underwriting support through authority reviews and governance standards.
Promote strong underwriting practices that align with risk controls.
Drive solutions with external broker and MGA partners to improve data quality reporting and financial accuracy.
Oversee project while balancing daily operational demands.
Actively participate in strategic initiatives and crossfunctional collaboration.
Manage workload distribution and provide clear direction to support teams.
Develop and implement standardized processes and guidelines.
Lead performance reviews and career development initiatives.
Foster accountability and problemsolving skills within the team.
Streamline processes manage KPIs and conduct regular oneonone and team meetings.
Support automation and process optimization for improved efficiency.
Engage in discussions with internal leadership and external partners to ensure operational continuity.
Analyze and report on key operational metrics including data quality workflow efficiency and underwriting authority relationships.
What you will need to succeed:
Postsecondary education in insurance or a related field or equivalent work experience.
CIP or CRM designation (or current enrollment) is an asset.
5 years of commercial underwriting experience.
Leadership experience including direct team management and project leadership.
Strong underwriting knowledge including risk selection and rating.
Proven business acumen and relationship management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly.
Ability to develop strong business relationships with brokers MGAs and internal teams.
Proficiency with Aviva legacy systems Salesforce QLIK and Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience leading through change and managing hybrid teams.
Proven ability to lead problem resolution while maintaining a customerfirst approach.
Willingness to work inoffice fulltime and travel as needed.
