Fellowship One: This fellowship is open to scholars in any discipline whose work focuses on the Caribbean and/or AfroLatin America. We are especially interested in a scholar whose work engages with questions emanating from environmental justice Black geographies and ecologies digital cultures and/or Black feminism at the intersection of gender and sexuality.
Fellowship Two: This fellowship is open to scholars working in the fields of African African American and African Diasporic Studies whose research and teaching builds on the existing strengths of our department our Global Black Studies initiative and our commitment to the St. Louis region. Geographic region timeperiod and method of inquiry are open. Humanist Social Scientists are also welcome. We are particularly interested in scholars whose work compliments one or more of our focus areas including environmental justice Black geographies & ecologies digital cultures and Black feminism at the intersections of gender and sexuality.
These fellowships are intended to assist junior scholars whose research focuses on topics related to Africa African American and/or the African Diaspora in furthering their careers by providing opportunities for mentorship on research teaching and overall career advancement. AFAS postdoctoral fellows are provided a competitive salary support for research and researchrelated travel office space and computer equipment. They are expected to teach one course per semester based on their scholarly area of expertise and with the approval of the AFAS curriculum committee and/or department chair. In addition fellows will participate in the intellectual life of the unity and the university by giving and attending public lectures mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and participating in departmental activities. The fellowship begins in the fall semester of theacademic year as early as July 1 2024.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and must have received a doctorate no earlier than Spring 2021 and no later than July 1 2024.
Applications are evaluated against a broad set of criteria with special consideration given to contributions the candidate can make to diversity the University community and to deepen the scholarly inquiries of the Department of African and African American Studies and its curriculum.
