Job Description:
Product Research and Development
- Works on projects directed towards the formulation of new and innovative products considering quality and profitability.
- Works on product development projects Food Service (FS) sample preparation material substitution (food ingredient and packaging) product and process improvement studies test kitchen activities and other research projects.
- Prepares and submits Customer Samples or new/special products based on FSD and Marketing request.
- Makes preliminary cost estimates of new reformulated or process improved products.
- Conducts experiments and suggests product application recipes.
- Conducts shelf life and shelf life extension studies.
- Formulates ingredient statements cooking directions and other package elements of new products as basis for the development of labels stickers and shipping cases to be finalized with Marketing.
- Thinks and submits to the R&D Manager product ideas for development cost reduction material substitution and product and process improvement studies to improve quality and profitability.
- Keeps track of recent advancements in meat processing food packaging processing equipment analytical methods and their possible adaptation in current operations.
- Oversees the initial commercial run 3 production schedules or as needed) of recently turned over formulations.
Product Evaluation and Specifications
- Conducts sensory evaluation studies on the company and competitor products
- Establishes storage requirements of products
- Adjusts proposed formulation according to consumer acceptability and rationalization
- Standardizes ingredients and packaging specifications
- Prepares approval documents for ingredients and packaging materials after evaluation studies have been made. Releases controlled copies to Warehouse Raw Materials Production Planning & Control Quality Assurance and Procurement Department
Quality Control
- Standardizes together with QA laboratory tests to be adopted as quality control measures for new products.
- Works with and orients QA Supervisor QA Inspectors Production Supervisors and Leadmen whenever necessary on the recommended quality control checks during turnover of the control of product quality to Production and QA
Documentation
- Documents product formula manufacturing procedures and specifications of new and improved products.
Job Qualifications:
- Has at least a Bachelors degree in:
- Food Technology Chemistry Biology Nutrition & Dietetics Chemical Engineering Industrial Technology major in Food Technology Education major in Technology and Livelihood Education (Food and Entrepreneurship) (preferred); or Any related courses
- At least 2 years of experience in Research and Development for Food Manufacturing Company (preferred)
- Food Allergen Awareness Training (required upon onboarding)
- Food Safety & Quality Management Training (required upon onboarding)
- Good Manufacturing Practices (required upon onboarding)
- Product Knowledge and Safety required upon onboarding)
- Safety Orientation (required upon onboarding)
- Good Documentation Practices (preferred)
