The Supervisor Phlebotomy supervises the collection and processing highquality blood specimens ensuring precise patient identification and providing accurate diagnostic results. This role manages the maintenance and organization of supplies and utilizes lab/hospital systems for accurate documentation of lab activity in established turnaround times. This role oversees staffing scheduling competency assessments and adherence to quality standards while fostering a culture of collaboration and performance improvement within the phlebotomy department.
Responsibilities
Ensures efficient staffing and scheduling improvements while assisting coordinators in managing shift coverage for blood collection operations. Supervises the collection of highquality blood specimens to ensure reliable diagnostic results and support prompt patient care. Ensures precise patient identification aiming for zero rejected blood bank specimens minimal labeling errors and no instances of misidentified patients or mislabeled specimens to prevent errors in transfusions and diagnostic tests. Oversees maintenance of supplies including phlebotomy baskets carts workspace and electronic/telecommunication devices to ensure efficient phlebotomy procedures minimizing disruptions and facilitating a streamlined workflow. Performs annual competency evaluations and staff appraisals provides counseling and corrective action and ensures compliance with yearly requirements (TB Flu Fit Testing) for phlebotomy staff. Oversees accreditation standards for blood collection address departmental incidents and Safety Zone Portals related to blood handling coordinate skills fairs and facilitate student training in proper phlebotomy techniques. Contributes to patient satisfaction goals by resolving service issues related to blood collection monitoring patient satisfaction scores for phlebotomy services and participating in improvement planning. Enhances employee satisfaction within the phlebotomy team by fostering collaborative relationships conducting departmental rounding executing employee partnership action plans and coordinating events to celebrate blood collection achievements. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Required: High School diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 5 years for High School Graduate 2 years for Bachelors Degree
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required: BLS (CPR)American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider Current Phlebotomy licensure from one of the following approved agencies: ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or ASPT (American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians) or NHA (National Healthcareer Association) OR Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician from one of the following upon hire: ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or AMT (American Medical Technologists)
