Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Theatre seeks a fulltime Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Acting to begin in August 2025. Teaching responsibilities for the position will focus primarily on beginning through advanced acting styles as well as directing selected mainstage productions. This position will contribute to the growth of the BA Theatre and BFA Musical Theatre Programs. Applicants should have demonstrated experience in an inclusive pedagogical philosophy and practice the ability to collaborate as a member of an artistic team novel approaches to contemporary practice in theatre and excellent written and oral communication skills. Student recruiting student advising and participation in various departmental college and university committees and activities are all expected. Continuing professional activities and/or continued research in the discipline is also expected. Fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre NAST the Department of Theatre at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is dedicated to developing the next generation of theatre artists by regularly producing world premiere productions partnering with regional theatre companies and hiring faculty and staff who are expected to continue working in the professional industry. The Department of Theatre offers students intensive studies in Design/Technology (BA PreProfessional Concentration) Performance (BA PreProfessional Concentration) General Theatre Studies (BA) and Musical Theatre BFA . The department has shown continued success in training students from across the country to be innovative thinkers and artists in the contemporary theatre market. The department consists of 14 fulltime faculty members and 4 fulltime professional production specialists. The departments production season includes two musicals three plays studio productions and four touring companies that perform throughout the year. Productions are built in professionally run studios and shops and perform in two stateoftheart performance venues. Qualifications: A terminal degree in Acting professional acting experience and a background in teaching at the university level are required. Required Qualifications
Terminal degree in Acting professional acting experience and a background in teaching at the university level are required.
