Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $19.00 PER HOUR.

The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages communitybased supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice ACS oversees detention placement and programs for youth in the community.

ACS Office of the First Deputy Commissioner (OFDC) plays a significant role in implementing agency goals and carries out ACS mission to foster a collaborative communitybased integrated approach to child and family safely permanency and wellbeing. The First Deputy Commissioner serves as the Commissioners senior delegate and represents the Commissioner when necessary. OFDC includes the Nicholas Scoppetta Childrens Center (NSCC) Office of PublicPrivate Partnerships Office of Equity Strategies Office of Child and Family Health Faithbased/HOPE Services Medicaid Redesign Services and Parent Advocacy Council.

As a Planning Intern you will support our OFDC team in daytoday operations and contribute to longterm projects aimed at improving quality of care employee engagement and organizational effectiveness. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to various aspects of the agency including community engagement publicprivate partnerships voter registration and efforts to supervise children a youth in ACS care.

Key Responsibilities:

Support First Deputy Commissioner and senior team and learn about executive leadership and public administration

Support planning process of summer Parent Day events in conjunction with the Parent Advocacy Council

Conduct outreach and develop partnerships to support agency priorities

Organize and coordinate programming/ activities for leadership staff in OFDC

Support the administration of policies and procedures in relation to OFDC areas including the Childrens Center HOPE services and others

Participate in training and implementation of voter registration drives

Participate in programming to support skills/wellness among youth supervised by ACS in care

Provide administrative support to the OFDC team as needed


Learning Outcomes:

Gain comprehensive knowledge of ACS operations in a highlevel setting

Develop project management skills and experience managing community relations and an understanding of policy compliance

Enhance abilities in coordinating and executing organizational tasks and events


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Section 424A of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with childcaring responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report.

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June August each year.
