GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
This individual is a BoardCertified Genetic Counselor and Project Manager managing the implementation and operation of an NIHfunded research project in translational genomics known as Genomic Sequencing for Childhood Risk and Newborn Illness (the BabySeq Project). He/she performs high level research coordination duties for this study and is responsible for training and directly supervising all research study staff working in the Green laboratory including genetic counselors study coordinators data managers research assistants and student researchers working under the PI. He/she also provides genetic counseling for parents who enroll in the BabySeq Project acts as a resource for both families and other healthcare providers with questions pertaining to the study/study results and will oversee and aid in the coordination of appropriate clinical followup for participants.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Overall:
- Direct and oversee the daily operations of all research staff and research activities
- Orient and train new staff in clinical research procedures
- Troubleshoot research and administrative issues and problems raised by collaborators and staff
- Supervise community education efforts and new subject recruitment; lead in the development of materials to support recruitment activities; plan and carry out programs for the recruitment screening enrollment and retention of research subjects; write informed consents and other documents
- As part of the leadership team participate in and coordinate the planning development and implementation of research protocols in accordance with research parameters set by the PI
- Establish appropriate data collection systems and procedures according to research protocols; complete and monitor the collection processing and recording of clinical data and/or specimen samples as required by established protocols
- Lead in developing maintaining and enforcing procedures
- Lead in reviewing and submitting research proposals
- Prepare project reports
- Perform all other duties/responsibilities as needed by the PI
2. Studyspecific duties and responsibilities
BabySeq Project (U19 HD077671:
- Direct and oversee the daily monthly and yearly operations of all research staff and research activities
- Act as the overall point person for over 20 scientists research staff and collaborators at Brigham and Womens Hospital Boston Childrens Hospital Baylor College of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health
- Troubleshoot research and administrative issues raised by collaborators and staff escalating to the PI as needed
- As part of the leadership team participate in and coordinate the planning development and implementation of research protocols in accordance with research parameters set out by the PI
- Coordinate and plan weekly project meetings; take and distribute detailed meeting notes
- Coordinate and plan annual BabySeq Project retreats and NICHD site visits
- Identify communication gaps between BabySeq subprojects and facilitate communication and workflow
- Lead in developing study procedures and update as needed
- Lead in writing and maintaining the IRB protocol and associated amendments
- Lead in reviewing and submitting related research proposals
- Supervise community education efforts and new subject recruitment; Lead in developing materials to support recruitment activities; Plan and supervise programs for the recruitment screening enrollment and retention of research subjects; Write informed consents and other documents
- Establish appropriate data collection systems and procedures according to the research protocol; Complete and monitor the collection processing and recording of clinical data and/or specimen samples as required by the established protocol
- Complete the PreEnrollment Informational Session and obtain informed consent from parents interested in participating in the BabySeq Project; Coordinate and aid in the interpretation of study results reports; Communicate results to participants and provide genetic counseling services and followup to families and providers pertaining to study genomic sequencing results
- Colead The BabySeq Project Genome Resource Center. Duties include coordination of all communications and expert responses from the BabySeq Project Genome Resource Center and participation in safety monitoring reviews for the return of genome sequencing results in the BabySeq Project.
- Lead in writing BabySeq Project Progress Reports for the NIH Newborn Sequencing in Genomic Medicine and Public Health (NSIGHT) group
- Attend national meetings and monthly conference calls for the NIH NSIGHT group on behalf of BabySeq with the PI
- Present scientific findings at national and international meetings
- Coordinate and contribute to all aspects of scholarly articles that are generated by the BabySeq Project
- Perform all other duties/responsibilities as needed by the PI
Supervisory Roles in Green Laboratory:
- Direct supervisor of two Research Assistants for the BabySeq Project
- Orient and train new staff in clinical research procedures for the Green Laboratory
- Liaison for the Green Laboratory with the Boston University Genetic Counseling Program coordinating student internships and observations
- Supervise student researchers

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master of Science in Genetic Counseling
BoardCertified Genetic Counselor
GCs with PhD or other doctoral degrees are encouraged to apply
