Masters in Degree in Nursing required.
Current Registered Nurse licensure in Massachusetts with consideration of those certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in an expanded role.
Qualified in all basic and advanced cardiac life support standards as established by the American Heart Association.
Ideal candidate would have 35 years experience in the Advanced Practice role particularly in breast oncology womens health or the general surgery arena. Must be a highly motivated individual who will work in a collaborative manner with physicians and other clinicians.
The Division of Surgical Oncology is seeking a fulltime Nurse Practitioner (NP) to support the Divisions breast surgery practice at the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care in Danvers MA. The NP will provide comprehensive health care for women with breast disorders. The practice will include followup of patients with breast cancer and with benign disease. Responsibilities will include evaluation diagnosis care plan development care plan implementation and subsequent followup. Procedures may include cyst aspiration in the breast fineneedle aspiration and skin biopsy of the breast. The NP will help facilitate communication issues for the physician including returning patient phone calls communicating with referring physicians and serving as an information resource for patients. The NP will also be responsible for filling out disability paperwork and visiting nurse paperwork for patients. The incumbent is responsible to maintaining state licensure in good standing.
Under the supervision and direction of the supervising physician Senior Administrative Manager and accordance with state and federal rules and regulations of Nurse Practitioner practice the NP will support the Danvers Breast Surgical Oncology practice. Specifically the NP will provide comprehensive health care for women with breast disorders and the practice will include followup of patients with breast cancer and with benign disease.
The NP will obtain patient histories perform comprehensive physical examinations evaluate new and followup patients coordinate tests and consultations implement treatment plans communicate with referring physicians and patients/families and perform patient education. Responsibilities will also include performing simple skin biopsies removing drains and removing sutures/staples etc. Additionally the NP will help to coordinate the interface between inpatient and outpatient care. Responsibilities will include helping to enroll patients in clinical trials and filling out registry forms from outside tumor registries.
The position requires working in the breast practice on the campus of the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care.
I.Clinical Practice:
Evaluates followup patients and pre and postoperative patients.
Obtains health and medical history performs physical examination and constructs problem list.
Collects records and interprets patient data.
Reviews diagnostic data.
May order necessary diagnostic tests consultations and procedures as requested by the attending surgeon.
Examination preoperative teaching postoperative evaluation and management and followup.
Performs simple skin biopsies cyst aspirations incisions and drains.
Removes drains.
Removes sutures/staples.
Completes disability paperwork for patients.
Fills out visiting nursing paperwork for patients.
Triages urgent referrals.
Prescribes medications / medication refills while adhering to hospital policies for medication administration as necessary.
II. Communication:
Returns patient phone calls.
Communicates care plan to all referring providers MD of record and patients/patient families.
Responsible for communication and coordination with residents fellows nurses and other physicians involved with the care of hospitalized patients.
Serves as an information resource for patients.
Coordinates interface between inpatient and outpatient care.
III. Other Duties:
Participates as requested in MGH and Partners quality initiatives.
Meets routinely with supervisors to review statistics progress and overall performance of the practice.
IV. Educational:
Participates in Surgical Oncology/Community Surgery educational meetings.
Pursues independent learning opportunities.
Completes continuing education in relevant fields to maintain professional licensure.
Completes the 100 hours of continuing medical education necessary during each 2year period of employment. Attends internal and external education meetings and reads appropriate professional journals in order to maintain and enhance skills and clinical competence. Is encouraged to advance his/her medical and technical skills as appropriate to deliver optimum patient care.
