GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Working under the general direction of a Manager in the Group Practice Management Department in the Professional Billing Office (PBO) the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for financial reporting analysis and forecasting including management reporting financial modeling financial and budget impact analysis and budgeting and revenue forecasting. The Senior Financial Analysts work relates directly to the reporting and analysis of billing and can impact PBO and practice operations.
The Senior Financial Analystmust understand revenue cycle issues for the assigned practice and identify opportunities to improve overall billing performance or explain variances from budget projections. The analysis includes review of budget projections performance data and the revenue cycle to understand key influences on the practices billing performance. The Senior Financial Analyst prepares summaries and reports for the PBO Billing Manager PBO Management Team and the Practice Financial/Administrative Management for review and comment.
The MGPO Professional Billing Office is the central billing office for physician practices affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston Massachusetts.
Conduct analysis (performance variance and financial) as assigned. Create/update monthly reports which include but are not limited to financial performance reporting budget and revenue forecasting RVU modeling billing cycle reconciliation between a practice system and IDXBAR
Review current performance results (charges income accounts receivable collection rates) and compare these to budget projections and prior year performance. Current performance may also include review of practices charge submission practices interface billing issues dictionary reviews coding needs unique system setup issues specific payer responses etc.
Proactively identify opportunities and key issues for the practice. This may be highlevel payer analysis or more discreet analysis of particular CPT codes or payer issues. Develop customized reports to address specific questions raised. Summarize findings in report or presentation format
Collaborate with other areas within the PBO for exchange and verification of information
Present findings to Billing Manager PBO Management and Practice Finance Teams. This will include presentation and summary of analysis and recommendations for action
Act as proxy for Billing Manager/Manager in his/her absence. Duties related to proxy include but are not limited to representing PBO in monthly billing meeting represent team in adjunct meetings direct and mentor activities of other team members and use professional experience and judgment in approving invoice discounts and writeoffs
Bachelors degree required MBA degree with case analysis experience preferred
35 years experience in a professional healthcare setting required knowledge of financial analysis in a health care setting is preferred
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Solid understanding of healthcare billing finance and accounting principals
Ability to present information and respond to questions from multiple levels of staff including but not limited to Chiefs Administrative Directors Managers providers PBO colleagues and front desk staff
Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Ability to read analyze and interpret financial and operational date and/or governmental/payer regulations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel Word Access Outlook) required
The MGPO Professional Billing Office is located in the Charlestown Navy Yard campus
The hours are usually Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM but vary according to the demands on this exempt salaried position
Staff is very collaborative and work together to solve issues with particular practice issues
There are often multiple conversations occurring at the same time the staff needs to be able to handle an environment that is not quiet
The employee is required to travel to any Partners facilities to attend offsite meetings. This includes travel to new client sites
The Senior Financial Analyst has no direct reports however he/she is responsible for mentoring and providing some daytoday supervision of the Assistant Billing Managers and/or Fiscal Liaisons who are assigned to work with him/her.
The fiscal responsibility varies based on the practice (s) covered by the individual senior financial analyst.
