Job Description
Job Summary
The City of Rockville Recreation and Parks Department is seeking a 2025 assistant coach for the Rockville Rays. The Rays are part of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) competing over the summer swim season. The team has over 200 swimmers practices Monday through Friday afternoons with meets on Saturday mornings and some Wednesday Evenings / Sunday Mornings. The goal of the team is to provide an opportunity for children ages 518 to have fun build selfconfidence teamwork and good sportsmanship through competitive swimming.

Swim Coach
Responsible for conducting practices and workouts for swim team members; responsible for maintaining a safe environment for practices; responsible for all paperwork and administrative processes which is related to swim team and meets; responsible for supervising swimmers at meets professionally communicates with swimmers and parents to provide information pertaining to the swim team and general customer service. Complete routine facility maintenance to include setup and cleanup of practice area. Respond to any emergency situation which may arise.
Usually works under the supervision of a Senior Coach or Head Coach however is expected lead practice sessions independently as directed. Work schedule may include early morning evening and weekend hours. Other duties as assigned.
Senior Swim Coach
Responsibility includes planning and implementation of seasonal and weekly plans for a swim team practice group supervises other coaches in practice and at competitions. Also responsible for leading practices and workouts for swim team members; responsible for maintaining a safe environment for practices; responsible for all paperwork and administrative processes which is related to swim team and meets; responsible for supervising swimmers at meets. Serves as the point of contact for communication with swimmers and parents within the practice group to provide information pertaining to the swim team and meets provides general customer service. Complete routine facility maintenance to include setup and cleanup of practice area. Respond to any emergency situation which may arise.
Usually works under the general supervision of the full time Head Swim Coach and is expected coordinate the operations of their assigned practice group to include planning and leading practice sessions independently. May supervise other swim coaches with lesser experience. Work schedule may include early morning evening and weekend hours. Other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Swim Coach
Certification in Safety Training for Swim Coaches CPR/AED and First Aid required. Ability to communicate effectively in a pool environment is required. Lifeguard Training Certification preferred. Ability to demonstrate competitive swimming strokes and techniques is required. Coachs Certification from USA Swimming preferred.
Experience: Must have competitive swimming background. Prior experience as a Swim Coach or Swim Instructor preferred.
Education: High school diploma preferred
Senior Swim Coach
Must have or attain American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Level II certification or equivalent. Certification in Safety Training for Swim Coaches CPR/AED and First Aid required. Ability to communicate effectively in a pool environment is required. Ability to demonstrate competitive swimming strokes and techniques is required. Lifeguard Training Certification and Montgomery County Pool Operators License Preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain Coachs Certification from USA Swimming.
Experience: Must have at least 5 years of coaching experience.
Education: High school diploma and/or above. Some college preferred.
