Job Description

Be a part of a worldclass academic Healthcare system University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider in the NICU department. Here you will provide direct patient care in collaboration with consulting physicians and the multidisciplinary health team by privileges approved by the credentials committee including identification management and/or referral of health problems. This position a 100 onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide direct patient care and formulate a plan of care in collaboration with the physician nursing staff and the multidisciplinary health team by privileges approved by the Credentials Committee.
  • Communicate followup plan/disposition with the followup health care provider.
  • Prescribe and evaluate pharmacological therapies according to protocol.
  • Attend both high and lowrisk deliveries as needed.
  • Initiate CPR and perform therapeutic techniques to stabilize a compromised infant in the delivery room NICU and emergency room and refer hospitals as needed.
  • Stabilize and transport patients as needed.
  • Demonstrate an indepth understanding of current professional and legal trends concepts and issues related to practice.
  • Identify the educational needs of family members and assist with teaching as appropriate.
  • Ensure that appropriate systems and resources are in place to maintain established standards of care.
  • Participate in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care.
  • Participate in developing reviewing and evaluating policies and procedures.
  • Participate in developing and implementing QI monitoring.
  • Participate in providing inservice and outreach education programs.
  • Act as a resource for clinical skills for staff on or off the unit.
  • May participate in clinical research projects conducted by supervising physicians.
  • Serve as a preceptor to APP students.
  • Evaluate goals and outcomes by considering the patient family and the organizations benefitversusburden safety quality and costeffectiveness.
  • Develop diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patients care plan.
  • Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants children pregnant and lactating women or older adults. Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities.
  • Performs other related work as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Must have completed an accredited Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant educational program.
  • Certification in ACLS
  • for NPs: Certification by a recognized nursing board and licensed or eligible for Licensure in the State of Illinois
  • for PAs: Certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois
  • Once licensed apply for a midlevel practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12 years of clinical experience in a related specialty area
  • Proficiency in resuscitation intubation and line placement.
  • Proficiency in EPIC.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers.
  • Excellent clinical management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments.
  • Being detailoriented.
  • Be able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Be able to use independent judgment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate communication among various levels of practitioners.
  • Ability to interview and obtain medical information.
  • Willingness to enter into a written collaborative agreement with a collaboration physician upon hire.
  • Be able to document and bill for services properly.
