If you are a Nurse Practitioner with an interest in providing compassionate substance use care as part of an innovative interdisciplinary team we courage you to apply to the Road to Recovery Program.

The Road to Recovery Program at St. Pauls Hospital is a leader in innovative addiction and substance use care. We offer a comprehensive continuum of services to support patients in their journey to recovery. The vision of the Program includes a Rapid Access Addiction Clinic withdrawal management inpatient recoveryfocused beds transitional housing outpatient treatment and beyond. The Road to Recovery Program was designed to fill the gaps in the existing system providing seamless access to the care individuals need when they need it.

The Road to Recovery Program is committed to delivering wholistic and compassionate care addressing the physical social psychological and spiritual needs of our patients. Fulltime and parttime Nurse Practitioner (NP) opportunities are currently available for this program. We welcome all applicants including new NP graduates. Residency/ Post NP graduate education and support is available.

Program Overview

As a Nurse Practitioner with the Road to Recovery Program you will play a vital role as part of the Addictions Medicine team in providing comprehensive and wholistic care to patients seeking recovery focused services. In this role you will provide primary/acute care for a cohort of patients accessing acute substance use stabilization beds located at St. Pauls Hospital with a focus on their nonaddiction related medical issues including chronic disease management.

In addition to your clinical responsibilities you will:

  • Provide professional guidance to other healthcare professionals working autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team including addiction medicine focused physicians nurses and allied health providers. Your role will involve making referrals to specialists allied health providers physicians and other resources as necessary.
  • Collaborate with patients and healthcare professionals to identify trends and patterns that impact the communitys health and participate in evidencebased strategies to improve healthcare services. Your involvement in policymaking activities will also influence healthcare practices.
  • Have protected time (approximately 30 percent of the FTE) to fulfill the other nonclinical NP domains of practice.

What You Bring

  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals.
  • Recent relevant clinical nursing experience or interest in substance use care.
  • Comfort and ability to support addiction medicine care needs of patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to trauma informed care and culturally safe care.
  • Completion of the Basic Cardiac Life Support Course Level C.

  • Salary Range is $74.45$81.90 per hour depending on NP experience.Reimbursement is also available upon successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for NPs who have not yet completed the exam.

  • Stateoftheart facilities: Be part of the exciting growth of the program. The Road to Recovery Program will eventually house 100 beds. The first phase focused on stabilization which opened in the fall of 2023 at St. Pauls Hospital.
  • The unit will then transition to the stateoftheart NEW St. Pauls Hospital on the Jim Pattison Medical Campus when it opens in 2027.

Your Day to Day:

  • Diagnoses and treats previously undiagnosed patients for undifferentiated diseases disorders and conditions within the Nurse Practitioners scope of practice; writes orders for treatment and medications; provides first line care in emergencies and continuous care.
  • Monitors ongoing care orders appropriate screening diagnostic investigations; interprets reports of investigations and analyzes information to monitor progress and plan treatment.
  • Establishes priorities for management of health diseases disorders and conditions; provides followup treatment; communicates with patients and families about health findings diagnoses and priorities outcomes and prognoses; supports and counsels patients in their responses to diseases disorders and conditions.
  • Collaborates and consults with physicians the health care team and social service providers to determine the appropriate resources necessary for patients status. Develops and implements treatment plans. May admit and discharge patients to facilities according to medical staff bylaws.
  • Prescribes within the statutory and regulatory standards limits and conditions for Nurse Practitioners and within applicable employer policies and procedures.
  • Assigns work to other nursing and health care personnel; evaluates work and provides education and supervision as necessary; hires staff and evaluates staff performance.
  • Participates in research and quality improvement contributing to patient care and advances in nursing health policy development and population health.
  • Maintains population health focus by implementing screening and health promotion activities for populations at risk.
  • Participates in the education of nurse practitioner students and other health care professionals through preceptorship role modelling and knowledge development and exchange in clinical practice in classroom environments and community environments to foster health care partnerships.
  • Develops implements and evaluates policies and procedures related to nursing interdisciplinary care and health system practices.
  • Completes Encounter Records for the purpose of evaluating Nurse Practitioner implementation as a requirement of the Ministry Of Health.
