Job Description

General Summary:

The Program Coordinator will play a pivotal role in advancing community health and engagement initiatives across Chicago. Working closely with internal and external partners this position will support the identification of health priorities and the development of programs to address. This position will coordinate the planning implementation and evaluation of programs and events. Responsibilities will include serving as a contact with community partners maintaining relationships supporting communication efforts facilitating program logistics assisting in grant applications and reporting and providing administrative and other program coordination functions.

The Program Coordinator position will join the Maternal and Child Health Initiatives (MCHI) team and play a vital role in the expansion of our current programming. The Program Coordinator will focus on growing our relationships with healthcare organizations and support our partnerships. This role will attend regular meetings related to our work to share our program data and strategize to maximize referrals and streamline operational processes. This role will spend time growing our network within healthcare organizations by conducting community outreach and supporting the operational flow to connect patients of our partner organizations to our MCH services. Additionally the Program Coordinator will serve as a resource navigator to healthcare staff to help them assist their patients to connect to resources available in their local communities. This role will specifically provide program coordination to our Connect Home Visiting Chicago (CHVC) program in addition to any new programmatic innovations and representing the MCHI team at community events or meetings. This role requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to support community events with a hybrid schedule that includes a blend of inoffice athome and communitybased work.

The Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities serves as the hub for all communityfocused initiatives at Lurie Childrens. The Magoon Institute is responsible for aligning the Medical Centers clinical research education and advocacy expertise with community engagement while supporting people programs and partnerships that advance community health and health equity. This team provides engagement opportunities for employees physicians and trainees and leads the development and of Lurie Childrens Community Health Needs Assessment and Implementation Strategy. The Magoon Institute partners with clinical public health and community outreach leaders and experts across the Medical Center to work towards the goal of advancing health equity and racial justice and improving health and wellness for infants children adolescents and their families across Chicago.

Job Functions:

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners including community leaders healthcare professionals researchers and public health practitioners to identify health priorities and develop community health and engagement strategies.

  • Coordinate the planning development implementation and evaluation of community health and engagement initiatives programs and events within the Magoon Institute under the guidance of senior staff and manager keeping in mind community priorities community health strategies and organizational mission.

  • Act as contact for Lurie Childrens with community partners residents and marginalized populations across Chicago neighborhoods particularly those disproportionately affected by health inequities. Build and maintain strong relationships with communitybased organizations schools libraries parks places of worship businesses and service providers.

  • Support coordination of community and citywide convenings trainings and workshops as well as assisting with action planning ensuring diverse representations from various backgrounds and lived experience.

  • Coordinate program logistics track project expenditures facilitate meetings and events and maintain project materials and documentation to ensure timely and budgetconscious deliverables.

  • Prepare regular status reports on project progress outcomes and impact.

  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings booking conference rooms/space making copies preparing meeting supplies taking notes and compiling key takeaways decisions and action items.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of communications marketing and/or social media efforts for specific community health and engagement initiatives and education including the delivery of presentations to various audiences.

  • Support program evaluation through data collection gathering participant feedback and monitoring outputs and outcomes to measure effectiveness and demonstrate impact.

  • Assist in facilitating connections between Lurie Childrens healthcare providers and community partners to ensure access to health education and resources for children and families. Engage Lurie Childrens leaders employees physicians and trainees in community health efforts.

  • Assist in grant and philanthropic applications and reporting to funders as well as fundraising efforts under the guidance of senior staff manager and dept leadership.

  • Facilitate trainings provide support and assist with human resource processes for program assistants students interns and volunteers.

  • Attend and contribute to regular checkins with leadership managers staff and collaborators and attend team and department meetings. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Experience:

  • Associate degree required. Bachelors degree in a related field preferred.A combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience is directly related to the duties of the job.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in community health programming or engagement education healthcare/public health administration or related field required; experience with project coordination preferred.

  • Strong project coordination experience and organizational skills required.

  • Flexibility to work on evenings and weekends travel throughout Chicago likely.

  • Good interpersonal verbal and written communication problemsolving organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft 365 software required. Experience with database management and survey software and tools preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiply projects.

  • Ability to collaborate with individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines and build relationships across all levels of the organization.

At Lurie Childrens we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity reflecting individual contributions experience and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
