Job Description

Summary:The Senior Medical Records Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining patient medical records. This positions primary duties include organizing and storing patient records in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements responding to requests for medical records and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of patient information. This position also works closely with healthcare providers insurance companies and other stakeholders to ensure timely and secure access to patient records.

Qualifications:
  • Education and/or Experience
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Minimum of two years of experience in healthcare.
    • Medical records experience preferred.
  • Communication and Language Skills
    • Polite demeanor and customer service skills.
  • Mathematical Skills
    • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Reasoning Ability
    • Manage multiple priorities well and followthrough.
    • Strong accountability and reliability.
    • Strong attention to detail.
Essential Duties:
  • Carefully prepare and organize patient charts for upcoming appointments or admissions ensuring that all required documents and records are in order. Additionally properly breakdown and store completed charts according to established guidelines.
  • Scan medical records utilizing electronic systems ensuring all patient information is accurately digitized.
  • Answer phone calls for medical records requests.
  • Fulfill external records requests.
  • Faxor mail completed medical records efficiently to required parties.
  • Regularly audit and review medical records to ensure accuracy completeness and compliance with established standards and regulations. Identify and rectify any discrepancies or errors and implement improvements to enhance the overall quality and reliability of the records.
  • Assist in training new hires as needed.
  • Offer coaching to team members as needed.
