    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    To assist the Assistant Superintendent for Support Services in areas of student support programs ofthe district. Direct and manage districts transportation and vehicle maintenance program. Overseemaintenance of all district owned vehicles. Ensure safe and efficient operation of transportationdepartment.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education/Certification:

    Bachelors Degree required
    Masters Degree preferred
    SpecialKnowledge/Skills:
    Ability to direct and manage operations of a large fleet of vehicles
    Knowledge of energy managementand vehicle repair and maintenance
    Ability to manage budget and personnel
    Ability to coordinate district function
    Ability to interpret policy procedures and data
    Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
    Experience:
    Three years of supervisory experience in transportation operations preferably with public schools
    preferred Experience in public education administration preferred

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    Routes and Schedule

    Prepare and update bus routes and schedules for all schools in district and develop plan to meetfuture transportation needs.
    Coordinate transportation for extracurricular activities and special programs.
    Respond to afterhours emergency calls as needed.
    Notify bus drivers schools and public of any changes in bus routes and schedules.
    Policy Reports and Laws
    Implement federal and state law State Board of Education rule and board policy intransportation area.
    Compile maintain file and present all reports records and other documents required intransportation area.
    Implement districts student discipline policies and communicates to students expected behaviorwhen using district transportation.
    Enforce safety standards that conform with state federal and insurance regulations and developa program of preventative safety.
    Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation of transportationdepartment.
    Comply with applicable personnel policies.
    Prepare data necessary to process transportation payroll.
    Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
    Direct repair of all districtowned vehicles and oversee plans for preventivemaintenance.
    Oversee/process vehicle repair requests and prioritize work orders.
    Contract for services that cannot be performed in shop.
    Monitor fuel deliveries and distribution.
    Budget and Inventory
    Compile budget and costs estimates based on documented program needs.
    Administer transportation budget and ensures that programs are cost effective and that funds aremanaged wisely.
    Initiate purchases and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and districtpolicies.
    Maintain current inventory of supplies and parts to avoid ordering delays.
    Approve and forward invoices for transportation to accounting department.
    Recommend disposal of obsolete or worn out vehicles and equipment.
    Recommend purchase of vehicles as necessary.
    Student Management
    Review student behavior reports and conducts conferences with principals parents students anddrivers on disciplinary issues.
    Enforce student discipline and suspension of riding privileges for any student who violatesrules and regulations.
    Personnel
    Assign bus drivers to routes and find substitutes as needed.
    Recruit train supervise and evaluate all transportation personnel and make soundrecommendations about placement assignment retention discipline and dismissal.
    Prepare process and maintain all documents required to verify safety certification and alcoholand drug testing of bus drivers.
    Prepare review and revise transportation department job descriptions.
    Evaluate employee job performance to ensure effectiveness.
    Safety
    Advise administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in the closing ofschools or road hazards.
    Help with gathering information in investigations of school bus accidents and student safetyviolations.
    Help organize and conduct training programs to promote a safe work environment.
    Ensure that transportation equipment is in excellent operating condition.
    Perform disaster duty as needed (hurricanes and earthquakes etc.
    Other
    Attend and make presentations at conferences and school board meetings to discuss innovationsand problems in transportation.
    Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovative techniques intransportation.
    Maintain good rapport with parents community and district staff.
    Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
    Perform other related duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    All Transportation Staff

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
    Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy procedures and data;coordinate district functions; maintain emotional control under stress.

    Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
    Frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregularhours.
    Ability to conduct onsite inspections of all vehicle repair and maintenanceoperations.
