This position involves checking and MicroStation drafting of highway structure plans for new designs rehabilitation preservation and critical repairs; completion of complex and varied calculations and computations involved with preparing layout and design for highway structures in accordance with the AASHTO Specifications; work involves decision making use of judgment and providing work direction to other lowerlevel technicians.

Expertise and understanding of concepts practices and theories used in the technical specialty area. Knowledge and skill in the use of equipment and software. Technical skill and knowledge of engineering area(s) of assignment. Ability to effectively use verbal and nonverbal skills to express complex technical and program concepts and related facts in a clear concise organized and persuasive manner. Ability to convey information orally clearly and concisely or in writing to individuals or groups. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others. Knowledge of bridge inspection principles techniques procedures and equipment. Ability to climb bridge structures and scaffolds. Ability to prepare reports keep accurate notes and records. Knowledge and ability in drafting sketching report writing and the use of a computer.

Associates degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive technician experience; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and eight years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
