Overview

Salary: $140000$150000

The Senior Director of Accounting is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the organizations assets and the presentation of the financial statements. Advocates Inc. & Affiliates is a multientity organization with net assets of $70M and annual revenues approaching $200M. The Senior Director of Accounting will oversee the accounting team and take a lead role in external financial reporting leading the annual financial audit preparation of tax returns and other regularity filings. They will provide guidance on technical accounting issues; consulting with external authorities as needed. Additionally they will work with the accounting team on professional development activities.

This role is fullyon site based in Framingham MA. Monday through Friday 9am5pm.

Responsibilities

  1. Manage the General Ledger team. Provide supervision and guidance to direct reports. Ensure professional development opportunities are available across the team.
  2. Provide training and technical support as needed.
  3. Research and provide guidance on technical accounting topics and new and emerging accounting guidelines. Consult with external experts as needed.
  4. Manage the monthly close process including overseeing reconciliations.
  5. Review and record journal entries required to reflect monthly activity.
  6. Perform Cash Management Treasury functions as well as authorized check signer.
  7. Liaison for Workers Compensation audit.
  8. Maintain and revise all policies and procedures pertaining to the Fiscal Services Team.
  9. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws rules and regulations.
  10. Manage preparation for and completion of year end audit and consolidated statements.
  11. Establish and maintain systems and controls to verify the integrity of all processes systems data and reporting.
  12. Serve as primary contact for the annual audit and uniform financial report (UFR).
  13. Preparation of federal and state tax organizers and initial tax return review.
  14. Preparation and filing of Owner Certified Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC) filings.
  15. Recommend procedural improvements to processes and resolve issues.
  16. Assume a supervisory role of other finance and accounting staff as needed.
  17. Participate in a wide variety of special projects and develop ad hoc reports as requested.
  18. Adhere to all principles related to the Advocates Way.
  1. Attend and actively participate in supervision and staff meetings.

Qualifications

  1. BS in Accounting or Business. Ten plus years of accounting experience preferably in the nonprofit sector with at least three years as a supervisor preferred.
  2. . Accounting experience in full general ledger monthly closing. CPA CMA or MBA preferred.
  3. Strong understanding of various applicable funding sources.
  4. Proficiency in accounting software applications.
  5. Strong spreadsheet and computer skills.
  6. Strongly prefer that a candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
  7. Ability to hire develop and mentor staff for optimal performance.
  8. Excellent written and oral communication skills ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team atmosphere.
  9. Ability to communicate articulately and knowledgeably with all levels of internal staff and outside constituencies such as auditors.
  10. High energy level superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.
  11. Must be detailed oriented and superior organizational skills.
  12. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  13. Must hold a valid drivers license and have access to an automobile.
