Job Description

Our client is a foremost firm in the Marine Transport Sector of the economy with local and international repute situated in Lagos Nigeria. The organisation has vast experience managing enhancing and improving navigation opportunities for the country's waterways.

We are looking to recruit a Head of Communication and Media who will lead and strategically manage the organisation's publicprivate media and communication relationships.

This role is essential to the success of a major international project based in Lagos State.

Job Objective

The primary purpose of the job

  • The job objective of a Head of Communications and Media is to lead the development and of communication strategies that effectively promote the organisation’s brand manage its public image and ensure clear and consistent messaging across all channels.
  • This role is critical for enhancing the organisation's reputation managing media relations and fostering internal and external communication.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

This job is expected to perform strategic and operational tasks and responsibilities as well as the results to be achieved.

Responsibilities

Strategic Communication Planning:

  • Developing and executing strategic communication plans that align with the organisation's goals. This involves identifying key messages target audiences and the most effective channels for communication.
  • Promote and strengthen the organisation’s visibility through the media and other opportunities.
  • Lead in developing implementing and measuring external and internal mediabased communication plans.
  • Develop and implement an online communications strategy ensuring alignment with theinternal communications strategy.
  • Develop daytoday content development strategy and functional enhancements.

Media Relations

  • Media Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with critical media outlets journalists and influencers to ensure positive media coverage and proactive press engagement.
  • Press Releases and Media Briefings: Prepare and distribute press releases organise media briefings and ensure that key messages are communicated effectively to the press.
  • Media Monitoring: Monitor media coverage of the organisation and its competitors analysing public perception and adjusting strategies as necessary.

Public Relations

  • Manage the organisation's reputation and ensure positive public perception. This includes coordinating public events community engagement activities and partnerships with other organisations.

Internal Communications

  • Ensuring effective communication within the organisation to keep staff informed and engaged. Including producing internal newsletters managing intranet content and organising staff meetings or events.

Digital Communication

  • Overseeing the organisation's online presence including managing social media accounts the website and any digital marketing efforts. This involves creating and curating content monitoring engagement and analysing metrics to gauge effectiveness.

Crisis Communications

  • Preparing for and managing communications during crises. This includes developing crisis communication plans training spokespersons and acting as a primary contact for media and stakeholders during events that could impact the organisation's reputation.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Identifying and engaging with key stakeholders including government bodies industry partners and the community to build support for the organisation's initiatives and policies.

Qualifications & Experience

(Experience education and certification required of the employee performing the job)

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications Journalism Public Relations or arelated field.
  • 7years of experience working in a media or public relations role and 4 years of management experience.
  • Strong Press and TV media relationships.
  • Must possess excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills with strong writing and editorial abilities.
  • Highly organised with the ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrated success with social media tools like Twitter Facebook and YouTube.
  • Must have good understanding of large public sector projects.
  • Must possess strong project management skills.
  • The ideal candidate MUST be resident in Lagos State.
