Trainee/Thesis worker

We are seeking a motivated and talented student to join our R&D team as a Thesis Worker to support the characterization of photoncounting detectors. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain handson experience with cuttingedge detector technologies and contribute to the advancement of photoncounting systems used in medical imaging scientific research and industrial applications. The work will be closely integrated with our ongoing development projects and tailored to meet the requirements of an academic thesis. If the thesis is not yet topical you can also start as a Trainee and work on the thesis later.

Key Responsibilities

    1. Experimental Setup and Testing:
      • Conduct measurements of detector performance such as quantum efficiency energy resolution and count rate capability.
      • Assist in the design and assembly of experimental setups for photoncounting detector characterization.
      • Operate laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes signal generators Xray sources and data acquisition systems.
    2. Data Analysis and Reporting:
      • Analyze measurement data to evaluate detector performance under various conditions.
      • Develop and optimize scripts (e.g. using Python) for data processing and visualization.
      • Prepare detailed documentation and reports on test results and methodologies.
    3. Collaboration and Learning:
      • Work closely with experienced engineers and scientists in the field of detector development.
      • Participate in regular project meetings and present findings to the team.
      • Gain a deeper understanding of photoncounting detector technologies and their applications.

    What we expect

        Educational Background:

          • Currently enrolled in a Masters program in Physics Electrical Engineering Applied Mathematics or a related field.

        Skills and Knowledge:

          • Basic understanding of semiconductor detectors and photon detection principles.
          • Proficiency in programming and data analysis (e.g. Python).
          • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and measurement techniques.

        Personal Attributes:

          • Curiosity and enthusiasm for experimental research.
          • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
          • Ability to work independently and within a team.

        Duration and Location

        • The thesis project is expected to take 612 months depending on the scope of work and the academic requirements.
        • The position is at Detection Technology Oulu with access to stateoftheart laboratory facilities.
