Job Description

Halton Healthcare is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Human Resources student to join our team for the summer. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain handson experience in a healthcare setting supporting the HR Recruitment and Employee & Labour Relations teams and contributing to the overall patient and staff experience.   

Employee and Labour Relations  

  • Respond to general inquiries from managers staff and union executive members related to employee and labour relations and the collective bargaining agreements.
  • Assist in coordinating and scheduling meetings for labour management grievances and other ad hoc meetings as required 
  • Attend Labour Management Meetings and support in drafting Meeting Minutes 
  • Learn and familiarize yourself with the collective agreement obligations and research relevant legal legislation 
  • Support data entry report preparation and document organization 
  • Prepare grievance files and assist in drafting grievance response letters 
  • Conduct research of policies and procedures 
  • Assist with the development and creation of presentations and/or workshops for management  
  • Create and update templates for employee correspondence letters 

HR Operations & Recruitment 

  • Respond to general inquiries from internal and external applicants  
  • Monitor the recruitment inbox and respond to emails timely 
  • Coordinate the weekly posting process including ensuring requisitions are approved in a timely manner; drafting postings; and ensuring that all postings are posted 
  • Assist with resume screening candidate telephone screens coordination of reference checks and other duties as assigned to assist HR Advisors in the full cycle recruitment process 
  • Maintain the new hire orientation tracker and coordinate with Organizational Development to ensure a smooth hand off prior to Day 1 New Hire Orientation 
  • Assist with job fairs and recruitment presentations  
  • Update weekly and monthly reports including but not limited to union reporting vacancy summary time to fill tough to fill hiring demographics and more 
  • Enter data into the Applicant Tracking System 
  • File interview notes and candidate profiles appropriately 
  • Other duties as assigned

Opportunity to engage in other areas of the Human Resources portfolio on an adhoc basis throughout this placement depending on interest(s) of successful student.


Qualifications :

  • To be eligible for this role you must be a current student enrolled in a Human Resources Management or Business program in a postsecondary institution and returning in September to fulltime studies or required to complete a coop/internship to fulfill a program requirement 
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook) is an asset 
  • Must be reliable punctual and adaptable to different tasks 
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada 


Additional Information :

Status: Temporary Fulltime (Summer Term May to August)

Site: Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with travel to other sites as needed (Milton & Georgetown)

Hours: Monday to Friday 7.5 hour day shifts;(Hours are subject to changed based on operational requirements) 

Salary: $17.20 per hour
