Job Description

The Medical Assistant supports the operation of the Residential Group Home department by coordinating client medical appointments liaising with the Residential Nurse and healthcare providers and maintaining accurate documentation and filing of appointment records.

DUTIES:

 

  • Facilitate interagency communication including collaboration with Day Rehabilitation Services to ensure client needs are met.
  • Perform clerical duties such as typing filing and completing forms as needed.
  • Manage and schedule client medical appointments routinely transporting clients to appointments and other necessary locations.
  • Administer client medications as required.
  • Maintain both manual and electronic filing systems.
  • Collaborate with the Residential Nurse to ensure appointments and health needs comply with ICF/IDD regulations.
  • Prepare and document appointment details ensuring proper followup on health care needs in coordination with the Residential Nurse.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the agency and the wellbeing of residents/clients.

Qualifications :

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medications their side effects and proper administration with the ability to document usage accurately and complete medication administration certification.
  • Basic understanding of ICF/ID facility regulations as mandated by the State Board of Health.
  • Familiarity with resident programming to meet the needs of individuals served.
  • Understanding of behavioral management techniques and ability to assess intervention needs when issues arise.
  • Knowledge of Individual Program Plans (IPPs).
  • Basic bookkeeping skills with the ability to review and reconcile resident accounts and financial records.
  • Effective communication skills with superiors subordinates Center personnel residents government officials and the public along with the ability to support residents in promoting their independence.
  • Competency in basic computer skills including the use of relevant software and webbased services.
  • Ability to follow organizational policies maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards.
  • Possession of a valid drivers license with a safe driving record.
