About the Role

As the Head of Chemistry you will be responsible for the overall leadership development and review of the Chemistry curriculum for all Senior School students ensuring it is engaging inspiring and relevant to the realworld applications of chemistry principles. You will also be responsible for managing the Chemistry department supporting student progress and contributing to the wider school community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Chemistry department including chairing meetings monitoring the Chemistry technician and overseeing the chemistry preparation room.
  • Collaborate with the Science team and the Senior School Leadership Team in reviewing and developing the Chemistry curriculum ensuring that it fosters critical thinking inquirybased learning and realworld applications of chemistry principles while being engaging and inspiring for students.
  • Working with the Head of Science lead the development and execution of strategies aimed at improving pedagogical practices within the department
  • Contribute to the organization and quality assurance of the Year 7 and 8 integrated Science curriculum.
  • Oversee the organisation and quality assurance of coherent and sequential Schemes of Work for Years 9 13 for Chemistry ensuring alignment with educational standards.
  • Support student progress and welfare in chemistry including promoting the subject in options selections for IGCSE/GCSE/IB so that students are fully informed.
  • Ensure compliance with examination board regulations in collaboration with the Examinations Officer and IBDP Coordinator.
  • Contribute to the wider school community by building positive relationships with students staff and parents.

Qualifications

  • A degree in a related subject.
  • A PGCE or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching English National Curriculum IGCSE and/or IBDP.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A hardworking flexible attitude and a commitment to fulfilling all pastoral welfare and supervisory duties.

Requirements

Relevant chemistry / science related degree

At least 5 years experience in a secondary school setting.

PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.

Expertise in teaching IGCSE / IBDP Chemistry

Strong communication interpersonal and managerial skills.

Classroom and curriculum development experience.
