Hiire is helping a wellfunded UKbased startup hire a Senior Backend Engineer for their new office in Porto.
The company
Our customer is abusiness identity platform that enables the onboarding of businesses of any size easily and instantly. Our products create a trust for financial service providers (our customers) to seamlessly verify onboard and monitor businesses (their clients).
Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team. You will be an early shaper of the design and architecture of the core platform and work closely with the founding team to deliver 10x value to our clients.
As an earlystage startup we pride ourselves on our ability to roll up our sleeves and build from scratch. We will be shipping code frequently and learning as we go while satisfying all critical security performance and uptime requirements for our clients.

Responsibilities
- Design the core of OUR platform
- Build a robust secure and resilient data ingestion layer
- Develop a performant sing and parsing layer to capture data
- Deliver customerfacing APIs and developerfriendly documentation for a selfservice product
- Impact and shape the engineering culture
- Continuously improve software engineering practices and processes
Qualifications
- Effective and selfdriven builder
- 5 years of experience building and owning a complete endtoend technology stack (Backend CI/CD Logging Monitoring Alerting)
- 3 years of Python familiarity
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (or equivalent: AWS Azure)
- Experience in designing customerfacing REST APIs and asynchronous architectures (e.g. queues pub/sub lambdas webhooks)
- Strong experience with relational database modelling (using PostgreSQL or MySQL)
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices such as DevOps and CI/CD
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in an agile environment
- Work authorisation in Portugal
It would be a plus if you have
- Experience with lowlevel languages like C Rust or Go
- Experience writing web sers
- Experience developing and maintaining backends for complex processes
