The Department is looking for a Power BI Data Engineer to join the Digital Transformation Program in the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) to work across several data and analytics platforms. The candidate will design build and optimise Power BI solutions with strong expertise in data modelling SQL and Azure Databricks. The ideal candidate will have experience in Azure Data Factory Azure DevOps CI/CD and Git version control ensuring scalable and wellstructured data products. This role is highly collaborative requiring close engagement with business stakeholders and development teams to deliver highquality userdriven insights
Key duties and responsibilities
- Develop and optimise Power BI solutions including reports dashboards and data models tailored to business needs.
- Design and implement efficient data models ensuring they are optimised for performance and usability.
- Collaborate closely with business users and crossfunctional teams to translate business requirements into actionable Power BI solutions.
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT workflows in Azure Data Factory to ensure reliable and efficient data ingestion.
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps ensuring smooth deployment and version control with Git.
- Optimise Power BI reports for performance usability and scalability.
- Ensure compliance with data governance security and privacy best practices.
- Continuously improve and refine data engineering and BI best practices ensuring consistency and efficiency across projects.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Strong expertise in Power BI including DAX Power Query (M) and advanced data visualisation techniques.
- Proficiency in SQL for data transformation query optimisation and data modelling.
- Experience working with Azure Databricks for data processing and analytics.
- Handson experience with Azure Data Factory for orchestrating and automating data workflows.
- Experience collaborating with crossfunctional teams including business users analysts and developers to improve BI solutions and data infrastructure.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills ensuring alignment between business needs and technical implementation.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated experience using a Power BI Data Engineer to design build and optimise Power BI solutions with strong expertise in data modelling SQL and Azure Databricks
- Strong expertise in Power BI including DAX Power Query (M) and advanced data visualisation techniques
- Experience working with Engineering Storage and Analytics services in cloud infrastructure.
- Experience working collaboratively in an agile development team
