Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Overseeing the operation, management, and maintenance of utility systems within the manufacturing facility. The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted supply of utilities such as electricity, water, steam, effluent water treatment, compressed air, and other essential services critical to the manufacturing process and supporting services. The role will be accountable for effective management of all managed assets onsite, optimizing the operating cost of all utility equipment and overseeing the maintenance of all external retail shops, stores, warehouses at different locations.

  • Overseeing the operation, maintenance, and optimization of utility systems to ensure reliability, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance of ammonia plant equipment, including compressors, heat exchangers, and refrigeration systems.
  • Enhancement and development of preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize equipment lifespan.
  • Monitoring utility consumption and devise and implement strategies to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Supporting the enhancement and development of spares parts management strategies based on equipment criticality to ensure uptime whilst maintaining a minimum possible spare parts inventory.
  • Leading a team of utility technicians and operators, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  • Fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the utility team.
  • Delegating tasks effectively and ensuring proper staffing to meet operational requirements.
  • Developing and implementing emergency response plans for utility-related incidents to minimize disruptions and mitigate risks.
  • Coordinating with emergency services and internal teams to respond effectively to emergencies such as power outages, equipment failures, or utility leaks.
  • Developing and managing the utility budget, including forecasting, tracking expenses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Evaluating utility contracts, negotiating technical terms with suppliers, and assisting to optimize procurement strategies to control costs.
  • Ensuring all utility operations comply with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conducting regular inspections and audits of utility systems to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Implementing corrective actions and improvements to enhance safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Supporting the company's sustainability initiatives and actively participating in the strategy creation for reduction of scope 1 and scope 2 emissions.
  • Complying with Quality, Health, Safety and Environment regulations and working practices of KDD and the State of Kuwait when carrying out duties.

Required Qualification

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Work Experience: 10 Years

Desired candidate profile

  • Good understanding of utility systems such as ammonia compressors, cooling plants, HVAC, boilers, water treatment, electrical power distribution, and backup power systems.
  • In-depth understanding of ammonia-based refrigeration systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to utility systems, as well as implementing preventive maintenance programs to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, communicate with senior management, and interact with external stakeholders such as suppliers and contractors.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and standards related to utility operations, including health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities to assess complex situations, analyze data, and develop strategies for optimizing utility systems and processes.
  • Experience in managing utility-related projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and utility management software such as SCADA/BMS.
