Rack Lifecycle Cluster Manager, DC Operations, AWS Infra Operations

We are looking for a senior strategic Rack Lifecycle Cluster Manager to join our Infrastructure Operations team in BOM owning the end-to-end rack lifecycle across three clusters. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the full continuum of rack operations from demand forecasting and rack landing planning through Late Binding cabling rack installation and handoff to end-of-life decommissioning.
You will lead a central cross-functional team of managers and technicians setting the strategic direction for rack lifecycle operations while driving operational excellence process standardization and automation at scale. You will be the single accountable owner for ensuring every rack needed for customer capacity lands on time is cabled and installed to standard and is decommissioned with zero compliance gaps across all three clusters under your purview.
Your work will directly influence AWSs ability to deliver infrastructure capacity to customers reliably and at the lowest possible cost while maintaining the highest standards of safety security and environmental compliance.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the multi-cluster rack lifecycle strategy across BOM aligning delivery roadmaps with AWS capacity plans finance targets and regional infrastructure goals
- Serve as the senior escalation point and decision-maker across all rack lifecycle phases deliveries cabling installation handoff and decommissioning for three clusters simultaneously
- Define and drive long-range operational plans including workforce planning tooling investments and process transformation initiatives across the cluster portfolio
- Partner with senior stakeholders across Capacity Planning Network Engineering DCEO Supply Chain and AWS Leadership to align priorities and resolve cross-functional dependencies
- Own end-to-end inbound capacity delivery from demand forecast through physical rack landing across all three clusters ensuring on-time delivery against committed customer capacity dates
- Drive rack landing planning in coordination with Late Binding PIC and facilities teams validating space power cooling and fiber readiness ahead of each deployment wave
- Provide strategic oversight for Late Binding cabling operations ensuring fiber/copper cabling patching schedules OTDR/power testing and labeling standards are executed to specification
- Oversee rack installation operations across all three clusters ensuring site readiness rack placement power and cooling sign-off and network device installation are completed per standards
- Ensure clean documented handoffs to Data Center Operations teams including updated CMDB/DCIM records port maps test results and completed workflow sign-offs
- Own the decommissioning pipeline for end-of-life racks coordinating with Capacity Planning Network Operations DCLM/ALM and MARS teams to schedule graceful shutdowns with zero service impact
- Ensure full EHS and MOP compliance across all physical decommission activities
- Define track and report on cluster-level KPIs including racks landed vs. plan Late Binding cabling completion % capacity ready dates and decom backlog vs. flightpath goal
- Lead WBR and Kingpin reporting for the BOM cluster portfolio
- Lead mentor and develop a multi-layered team of managers and data center technicians across three clusters fostering a high-performance inclusive and safety-first culture
- Own workforce planning staffing and talent development including recruiting onboarding training and performance management
A day in the life
As the Rack Lifecycle Cluster Manager for BOM no two days are the same. You might start your morning reviewing a multi-cluster capacity delivery dashboard identifying a supply chain risk for an upcoming rack wave and aligning with your managers on mitigation actions. By midday you could be in a cross-functional war room with Capacity Planning and Network Engineering to unblock a stalled rack installation or reviewing decom flightpath trends ahead of a the afternoon you might be coaching a manager on stakeholder communication reviewing a new SOP for Late Binding cabling standards or presenting cluster performance metrics to senior AWS leadership. Your role is equal parts strategic and operational you set the direction remove the barriers and develop the people who execute at the ground level.

- Bachelors degree or above in Engineering (any domain) Operations Business Administration or a related field
- Experience working with multiple groups of stakeholders
- Speak write and read fluently in English and have the ability to take direction in English
- 10 years of data center engineering or operations or 5 years of relevant discipline work experience
- 5 years of people management including 2 years as a manager of managers experience
- Experience leading the design automation deployment and support of large-scale infrastructure along with experience in project and program management
- Experience working in a data center environment (racking and stacking gear cable management hot/cold aisle containment)
- Experience leading cross-functional projects and managing large complicated programs
- Experience architecting/operating solutions built on AWS
- Knowledge of critical data center equipment
- Experience identifying and aggregating trends past performance metrics and insights into effective narratives with recommendations to external senior leaders
- 8 years of driving process improvements experience
