The Role

As aseniorFinite Element(FE) Analyst your primary role will be to aid the design ofautomotive and industrialproducts such asenginetransmissionbatteryandchassissystemsbyundertakinglinear and nonlinear FE analysisusingAbaqus AnsaandHyperworkstoolsets.This is a lead role to deliver structural analysis activities fromconcept to production design.This will include managing junior team members andliaisingdirectly with our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis taskson medium and largeprojects.
  • Apply theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of basic analytical engineering problems.
  • Buildhigh-fidelityFEmodelsforenginetransmission components andsystemsusing commercial CAE tools based on CAD and other engineering data.
  • Conductlinear and nonlinearstatic and dynamic FE analysis.
  • Prepare detailed technical presentations for both internal and client project engineering review.
  • Interface with internal and external clients to deliver updates designrecommendations and analysis results.
  • Perform technical supervision of junior team members.
  • Work with proposal leaders to develop scope of work and to estimate resource needs.
  • Assistwith techniqueand analysismethodologydevelopment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Person Specification

  • A deep understanding ofautomotivesystems design load paths and behaviour under various operating conditions.
  • Familiar with static and dynamic stiffness linear and non-linear stressfatiguemodal system noise and vibrationanalysis and optimisation. Specialism inall these areas is not essential.
  • Ability to definecomponentconcept designs through optimisation and a CAE lead design process.
  • Ability to refine designs and perform extensive virtual validationusingdetailed assembly models including interfaces jointspreloads and measured data as appropriate.
  • Understanding ofdurabilityand fatigueanalysis andassessments.

Skills/attributes

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable writing technical reports.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word Excel and Power Point.
  • Proactive self-motivated and have a good attention to detail.

Experience

  • Professional experience performing FE analysis.
  • Experience withHyperworksorAnsa pre and post processing software.
  • Experience with the Abaqus andOptistructanalysis toolset for implicit FE analysisand fatigue analysis tools such as FEMFATnCode or FE-Safe.
  • Experience performing nonlinear static FE and fatigue analysis.
  • Experience with at least one commercial CAD package (e.g. Catia Creo NX SolidWorksSpaceClaimetc.)

Qualifications / Experience

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Advancedexperiencein static and dynamic FE analysis.
  • Advancedexperience in fatigueanalysis.
  • Advancedexperiencein numerical methods includingmulti-body dynamic /finite difference methods.
