Google Arts & Culture and the American Research Center in Cairo have partnered together to introduce virtual trips, images, and stories to the public.

Egyptian tomb or a tour to the Mamluk Mosque, it's now achievable from the
luxury of your own home.

Thanks to the Google Arts and
Culture organization and its partnership with the American Research Center in
Cairo, a new digital portal entitled Preserving Egypt's Layered History has
been released online.

The project puts together a broad
variety of videos, stories and tours from the oldest Coptic monastery in the
world to visit the Jewish cemeteries of Egypt.

The site also makes a 3D tour of
the tomb of Menna, the 18th-Dynasty field scribe in the Theban Necropolis of
Upper Egypt.

There are also interviews with
four leading Egyptologists who share the secrets of their profession, including
Louise Bertini. Bertini is the Executive Director of the American Research
Center in Egypt and, according to The Art Newspaper, she supervised the content
of the initiative with Chance Coughenour, Head of Preservation at Google Arts
and Culture.

This is not the first time that
such a project has been made available exclusively in Egypt. In April last
year, the Egyptian Tourism Authority launched a number of virtual tours to
major historic sites in various parts of the world, including the 5000-year-old
ancient tomb of Queen Meresankh II, the Queen of Egypt.
