Upper School Drama Teacher

The IDEAL School of Manhattan is seeking a talented, organized, and creative drama teacher and theater director with a background in education to work in an inclusive setting. Reporting to the High School Head, candidates should have experience developing curricula for drama classes in Grades 6-12, have demonstrated strength in differentiating instruction, and be able to establish a supportive and engaging environment for students. Each year, IDEAL holds a fall play and spring musical. The drama teacher is responsible for casting, directing, and overseeing these productions. Thus, the right candidate will also have experience producing and directing student plays and musicals that reflect and highlight the gifts of our diverse student body. As a member of the Arts Department, the drama teacher will also support the school s annual Peace and Light Ceremony, Graduation, and Moving Up Assembly, and contribute student work (i.e. performances and monologues) to Art Beat, the school s annual body of work show. Upper School teachers also serve as advisors and club mentors and share in the duties and responsibilities that come with the day-to-day school operations, including supervising study halls, arrival, etc.

Responsibilities for this job include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Teach 4 sections of Middle and High School drama in an inclusive school setting
  • Plan, produce, direct, and oversee the school s annual fall play and spring musical
  • Serve as an advisory and club mentor and participate in the shared daily responsibilities of faculty, including but not limited to arrival and dismissal duties, lunch duty, study hall supervision, etc


Requirements

Experience in:
  • Drama instruction for Grades 6-12
  • Differentiating instruction
  • Selecting, directing, and producing plays and musicals for Middle and High School students
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Master s Degree in appropriate field
  • Independent school experience or experience in an inclusive school setting preferred
  • The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in writing and verbally with all school constituencies
