Job Description:

We are looking for a suitable candidate to fill up a post of Senior Engineer (Tunnelling), for the construction of bored tunnels in an overseas project. The incumbent will be based in Singapore and is expected to travel overseas for short assignments when requested by the Client, from time to time.
The tunnels will be bored beneath busy thoroughfare. Geology is mixed face with boulders and water table is expected to be high. Launching shafts will be constructed off-line with connecting mined adits, large enough for TBMs to be dismantled and reassembled at the tunnel alignment. Some shafts and the connecting adits may be enlarged at certain locations to enable concurrent NATM works and launching of TBMs at both ends of the mined station as contingencies. Dewatering may be required extensively subject to detailed investigation.

Typical Responsibilities:

You will be assisting the Chief Advisor, including review of the TBM tunnelling methodology and implementation of the health, safety, environmental and quality standards in the execution of tunnelling works, participate as committee member of the Project Safety Review (PSR), not limited to the following:
a. Guiding and developing the tunnelling team in terms of skills & competencies as well as assistance in recruiting of tunnelling personnel.
b. Review the tender documents and specifications related to tunnelling works.
c. Review the design of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) and supporting facilities.
d. Review the competency of the consultants and contractors key staff.
e. Review the design of instrumentation and monitoring.
f. Review the method statements related to deep shaft excavation, mined adits and tunnelling works.
g. Assess the readiness of the launching shaft and logistic support in accordance with the contract specification for the commencement of the tunnelling works.
h. Assess the readiness of the TBM and associated facilities, in accordance with contract specifications and established codes and standards for tunnelling.
i. Review the key risks of tunnelling, specifically for the breakout, breakthrough, cutterhead interventions, and tunnels near structures and in mixed soil.
j. Review, interpret and assess the daily instrumentation and TBM readings and recommend precautionary measures if necessary.
k. Review the quality of segmental tunnel lining including workmanship of pre-cast segments and erection of the segmental lining; and
l. Review the bored tunnelling operations and safety.


Requirements

a. Degree in Civil Engineering recognised by the BCA.
b. Minimum 5 years experience in bored tunnelling works.
c. Knowledge of geotechnical engineering for bored tunnelling works.
