Maintenance Technician

Are you a Maintenance Technician looking to join an award-winning Library that can provide great stability and amazing work culture? The Schaumburg Township District Library is seeking a full-time non-exempt Maintenance Technician position that will be 40 hours per week and required to work nights and weekends as determine by the operational needs.

Standard hours for this position are as follows:

  • Monday – Thursday 7:00am – 3:00pm.
  • Every other Friday 11:00am – 7:00pm.
  • The other Fridays will be 7:00am – 3:00pm.

The range for the position is $35,214 to $44,013; based on skills and qualifications.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for keeping our facilities operating optimally and repairing any problems when discovered by performing custodial duties, minor repairs, and limited ground maintenance in and around the Library facilities at all locations as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform custodial duties, minor repairs, and limited ground maintenance, as requested.
  • Report needs for major repairs and supply orders to Director of Maintenance.
  • Assist in and maintain building safety. Report all safety hazards to the Director of Maintenance or the Building Operations Manager.
  • Assist in daily meeting room set-ups and preparation.
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of Library facilities, by cleaning all entrance ways and perimeter sidewalks, sweeping all garbage in parking lot and islands, emptying all outside garbage bags and replenishing with new bags, on a daily basis.
  • Assist with all outside cleaning projects.
  • Assist with the deliveries on and shipments off the dock.
  • Provide back-up assistance to Security personnel, as needed.
  • Attend meetings and training as required or requested.
  • Abide by the policies and procedures of the Library.
  • Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patron and employee confidentiality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional courtesy to all patrons and staff members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). At least two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have experience in minor Plumbing / Electrical / Carpentry. Must have skills to read directions for building projects as well as measuring skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • A valid driver's license is required for this position.
  • A good team player willing to pitch in at any level when the need arises.
  • Exceptional customer service and ability to work with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to work independently and produce completed staff work.
  • Able to travel occasionally to multiple locations.
