Railhead is presently seeking a Linux Systems Engineer / Administrator to work at our corporate office in Herndon, VA. The ideal candidate will have had experience in the high-paced energy of startups as well as experience in the structured world of larger organizations.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide Linux and other systems support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems.
  • Support Linux systems and associated storage environments on-prem and in the cloud by assisting in the Incident and request management process and by troubleshooting and resolving issues
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a secure Linux baseline from existing policies
  • Ensure all security support systems are working and up to date on all Linux builds (HBSS, FireEye, Splunk, etc.)
  • Follows established change management process for all system configuration changes
  • Support the process to develop and maintain system security plans, contingency plans, preparing Authority-to-Operate (ATO)/MOU packages.
  • Perform administrative functions related to monitoring, support, project activities, and capacity planning
  • Automate system patching, configuration management, and compliance auditing using, Ansible or other automated CM products
  • Create and maintain documentation for procedures, configurations, and programs
  • Ensure Linux servers adhere to NIST, NIH, and industry security standards
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with applications and services hosted on Linux systems.
  • May be required to work nights and weekends to support operational activities as required
  • Other operational duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of Linux Engineering experience
  • Have desire to learn and implement NIST and Federal Security standards on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Have desire to learn and implement security tools such as Netsparker, HP Fortify, Splunk, and application patching for vulnerabilities.
  • Industry-relevant certifications are preferred (Linux+, RHCSA, OCP, GCUX, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to clearly communicate and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in business productivity tools, such as, Word, Excel, Power-Point, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, etc.
  • Basic understanding of IT practices, service management, governance frameworks, and industry standards (Ex: ITIL, ITSM, COBIT, ISO).
  • Ability to analyze complex data and present findings in a clear and easily understood manner.
  • Proficiency in business tools, such as, Word, Excel, Power-Point, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, etc.
  • Self-motivated, and drives tasks to completion with a sense of urgency
  • Sound judgment, positive attitude, and creative outlook required.

Responsibilities: Systems Configuration The Systems Administrator will be responsible for assisting the migration to a cloud architecture with industry best practices. Installing hardware and software for the network. Set up accounts and workstations. Software patch implementation and testing and system maintenance checks and repairs. Optimizing and evaluating the system regularly. Assigning and updating security permissions for the system network. Provide front-line on-site and remote support to diagnose and resolve user-reported problems. Assist in outage restoration actions, escalating to correct personnel within published timeframes or when indicated by procedure. Log all investigative and restorative actions taken in designated systems for later retrieval for audit purposes and root cause investigations. Develops, implements and tests database backup and recovery policies and procedures. Assist in Hardware deployments, including peripherals (desktop and server provisioning). Equipment assistance and troubleshooting (e.g., intake new equipment, coordinate with partners upon arrival, issue, swap, etc.). Installing the SharePoint platform, integrating applications, and creating libraries. Adding users, controlling access to document libraries, and setting permissions. Performing maintenance of the SharePoint platform, servers, and intranet. Problem-solving, troubleshooting, and debugging expertise to mitigate customer or service outages. Update standard operating procedures and technical training guide documentation as needed. Support hardware/software integration planning and oversee activities. Perform analyses and trade studies as necessary to aid in selecting system concepts. Support the project team in defining and documenting the system architecture and design. Ability and willingness to periodically lift and carry objects and equipment associated with servers and racks. Qualifications: Four-year college degree in computer science, electronic engineering, or other related technical discipline desired. Strong experience with SQL Server, SharePoint, and/or domain controllers is a must. Familiarity with government security practices and Authority to Operate (ATOs) in order to work closely with government security customers. Relevant experience with cloud/hybrid operations and architecture.
