Freelance Copyeditor

Location: Fully remote/work from home - United States

Black-owned, woman-owned boutique copyediting and proofreading firm
WordWiser Ink is seeking expert copyeditors to copyedit or proofread
content at a consistently high level of accuracy.

What you will do

Edit documents within your area of expertise to improve the clarity, flow,
consistency, and sentence structure and eliminate flaws in grammar,
syntax, word choice, punctuation, spelling, etc. Projects may include
fiction and nonfiction manuscripts of all lengths and genres, website
content, documents, publications, screenplays, essays, dissertations,
newsletters, bios, marketing materials, and poetry, among others.

What we re looking for

• Native-level English proficiency
• Minimum three years' freelance or professional copyediting/proofreading experience
• Strong communication skills and a keen sensitivity to the writer s intended message
• Ability to copyedit without removing or diminishing the author's voice
• Excellent research skills and fact-checking capabilities
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Strong time management skills and an ability to complete projects according to our guidelines within agreed-upon deadlines
• Expertise with style manuals, such as CMOS, AP, and APA
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PDF editing/markup tools
• Exceptional communication skills and ability to maintain open lines of communication with both team members and clients
• Innate knowledge of cultural dialects and vernaculars is a must
