Overview:
The Wellness Center Peer Leader Student Employee will act as a non-clinical student liaison for Oakton students and as as peer referral for Wellness Center Counseling Services. Students in this role will provide Oakton students with basic support and on-campus resources and act as trusted peers to navigate general student concerns. Students workers are expected to complete required departmental trainings perform basic administrative tasks and provide event programming support as needed. Student workers will assist with planning and delivering presentations to student groups and classes to promote Oaktons Counseling resources.
Campus Location: Des Plaines
Length of Employment: One academic year with opportunity for assignment renewal

Hours available: 10- 15 hours
Schedule Flexibility: Fixed schedule based on class schedule
Tasks Duties and Responsibilities (TDRs) and Learning Outcomes:
- Complete mandatory training and onboarding with the Counseling Services Department (PF CD)
- Provide short-term peer support to Oakton students (PF LD TW)
- Make appropriate referrals for those requiring higher levels of mental health support (PF LD CT)
- Participate in programming events to raise awareness about mental health and the services available on campus (PF LD TW)
- Maintain an up-to-date referral guide of relevant mental health resources in the community ( PF)
- Assist with planning and delivering presentations to student groups and classes to promote Oaktons Counseling and Care resources ( LD CM TW)
Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Other Abilities or KSOAs)
Qualified candidates will have the following competencies and skills:
- Must be currently enrolled in a degree program at Oakton College.
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
- Eligible to work in the United States.
- Have a GPA of at least 2.0 at the time of hire and be in good academic standing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including writing and presenting educational materials and delivering presentations to large groups.
- Must demonstrate sensitivity tact and the ability to give and receive feedback effectively.
- Proficiency in using a keyboard and personal computer to enter maintain and manipulate data
